The same is true of all putties in the Superfast range – Superfast Copper for copper and other non-ferrous pipes repair and Superfast Plastic for PVC plastic pipe repair. This is where epoxy putties specifically formulated for pipe repair have an advantage. Take Superfast Steel Epoxy Putty for example. Superfast Steel comes with a 5-10 minute work time, enabling rapid pipe repairs to be made.

Milliput products are available from most leading model/hobby shops, art and craft suppliers, independent hardware stores and plumbers merchants. Why Milliput? Note however, that some users complain about the manipulation of this mix (e.g. here: "I tried [to] dilute Milliput and although it worked (sort of) it was messy and time consuming").

Milliputs drying time depends on the temperature, but at room temp it is hard in 3 to 4 hours. If you speed the process by applying heat the hardening time can be reduced to just a few minutes. Find sources: "Milliput"– news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR ( December 2010) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) Epoxy putty on its own is either light grey or yellowish in color which is not the color a lot of people like their final sculpture to be after they are done. So I get frequently asked if it is even possible to paint epoxy putty and if it is how to properly do it and avoid any paint chipping. Some putties, like Milliput, will be softened by water while still uncured, but that's more of a side effect of the composition than a feature. The epoxy component doesn't mix with water, it's the filler that's affected. The only issue, that I had with one of my sculptures is that the sun can change the color of the epoxy slightly after a few years. The UV-rays will eventually take effect and change the color slightly towards white but that didn´t bother me and my painted sculptures are still fine.

No, Milliput isn’t toxic, but it is an irritant, so it’s best to wear gloves when working with it, particularly if you have sensitive skin. If you choose not to wear gloves then wash your hands with soap and water immediately after using it. Can you use Milliput with moulds? Once you are satisfied with your paint job simply let the paint dry and then finally apply a top coat to protect the paint from the sun, from scratches, and more. I like to use either a varnish or an acrylic sealer as a topcoat. After setting hard Milliput continues to cure and is fully cured after an elapse of time equal to the setting time at the same temperature. Once fully cured Milliput can be machined, drilled, tapped, turned, filed, sawn, sandpapered and painted. When you get the the branches, you can choose how much of the wire you cover, as this will depend on how much foliage coverage you’re planning to have. You may not need to cover all the wire if you know you’ll be covering these with leave or moss later.Silver Grey is suitable for applications that do not involve extremely fine details. Slightly finer than Standard Milliput. Ideal for repairs to stone coloured garden ornaments. Typical Applications Once the Milliput wash has dried, you can sand it to make it super smooth or add colour to it with acrylic paint. Milliput Epoxy Putty is sandable, so if the putty has hardened fully then sanding paper or a Dremmel can be used to smooth the sculpture or to add an extra layer of detail. The dust from sanding epoxy putty is very fine so a protective mask should be worn when sanding Milliput or other epoxy putties. If your objective is just a surface coating or filler for minor defects, which doesn't need to be durable and won't be subject to a lot of handling, thinned Milliput may be adequate. But it isn't the ideal solution. Epoxy-based products work best when used as manufactured; start with a product of the right consistency for your needs. If you’ve had a box of Milliput in storage for a while and try to work with it, you may find that it’s very hard to mix and may not harden correctly. Is Milliput toxic?

And what about fixing pipes? Can Milliput epoxy putty be used to repair a leaking pipe? Regular readers of PipeRepair.co.uk should know the answer to that one as we can often be found extolling the virtues of epoxy putty when it comes to sorting leaks and bursts. Then there is the cure time. Milliput is also designed for model makers, artists and other creative types who desire a putty which gives them more time to sculpt, carve and shape.

After setting hard Milliput continues to cure and is fully cured after an elapse of time equal to the setting time at the same temperature. Once fully cured Milliput can be machined, drilled, tapped, turned, filed, sawn, sandpapered and painted. Milliput can be sandpapered and painted immediately it has set. (it is advisable to wear eye protection during this process). So even if your epoxy putty has hardened fully there are still quite a few ways to work with it and add detail to it. So if the limited work time is an issue for you then maybe the fact, that you can still work with the putty after is has hardened by sanding it, will comfort you a little bit. Painting Epoxy Putty Properly Milliput is also used to fix gaps and joins in models, such as mould lines (small seams often found in miniatures). The best way to do this is to mix Milliput with a small amount of water as it’s easier to shape and smooth once it’s wet.It will take any epoxy putty about 3 to 4 hours to cure and once it has cured fully it will be very hard. Milliput are one of the world’s leading producers of epoxy putty with a brand that is recognised worldwide. They bill their products as “the epoxy putty with a thousand uses” and their customers range from model makers to woodturners to industrial users. In the putty state Milliput, like most chemicals in domestic use, may cause irritation to sensitive skins. When mixing the two components it is advisable to use rubber gloves or throw-away polythene gloves. When rubber gloves have been used wash them immediately after use, and whilst still on the hands, using running water. If the hands have been used for mixing or manipulating Milliput wash them immediately after use with toilet soap and warm water.
