Description

The rabbiting spade is perfect for digging small, deep precise holes particularly in confined spaces, for example, the narrow trenches in a vegetable patch or fence post holes. Other uses include establishing sapling trees, perennials and shrubs without disturbing existing plants.

The next piece of equipment you’ll need is the ferret locater. It’s good practice to use it before taking the ferrets to the hunting ground. You’ll also need a spade to retrieve a ferret when it catches a rabbit below ground. I’d recommend the Bulldog rabbiting spade for the job. There are two main types of rabbiting spades: those with a D-handle and those with a T-handle. D-handle spades are more comfortable to use and offer more leverage, but they can be more challenging to control. On the other hand, T-handle spades are easier to manage but can be less comfortable to use. Rabbiting spades are also much more versatile. You can use them to dig trenches, plant trees, and even remove stumps. Traditional spades are not nearly as versatile and cannot be used for all of these tasks. The rabbiting spade usually has a long shaft – sometimes without a handle grip – making it ideal for digging deep holes or trenches. The extra length gives a wider arm span for balance and control. Please read: What do we mean by leverage? for more information. The rabbiting spade, also called poachers spade, was created by farmers when times were lean, and no meat was available as the nobles were “out of town,” and people were hungry. So a regular spade was cut down, and a point formed on the end so that it could easily dig into rabbit holes to obtain food.Next, push down the spade’s handle to drive the blade into the ground. Continue pushing until the blade is through the soil. Finally, pull the handle towards you to remove the blade and substrate from the ground. Kits are born over the summer, as jills come into season in spring (never buy kits outside of the natural season). The length of the blade varies considerably with the rabbiting spade, ranging between 250mm (10″) and 400mm (16″). We know how important your garden is to you. We've listened to our customers and introduced a new improved speedy delivery service, meaning Express deliverycomes as standard. Also known as a Poachers Spade or Transplanting Spade, the rounded blade is ideal for digging fence post holes.
