These treatments can take up to 3 months to complete, may irritate your skin and do not always work. You should not use these treatments on your face.

You can drink alcohol while using Scholl Verruca Removal System. Always keep within the government's recommended limit of 14 units of alcohol per week. Can I use Scholl Verruca Removal System with other verruca treatments? There is no need to treat warts if they are not causing you any problems. Half the number of children with warts will find they have disappeared within a year without any treatment. Two-thirds will have gone within two years. Sometimes warts last longer, particularly in adults or if you have a weakened immune system (immunosuppressed), in which cases warts may persist for many years. Before applying the treatment, soften the wart by soaking it in water and rubbing it with an emery board or pumice stone to remove any excess hard skin. Few parents would argue verrucas are anything other than a nuisance. However, experience has led Swim England to the opinion that to place resources into eradicating verrucas is a waste of time. Swimming and verrucas: the best way forwardYour dermatologist may suggest various different options for wart removal. These include stronger medications that you either take by mouth, apply to your skin or are injected into the wart. If you use nail files or pumice stones on your wart or verruca, don’t share these or use on other areas of your skin. Freezing warts may also be effective. Many GPs and practice nurses are skilled at this. You can also get private treatment with cryotherapy from podiatrists. Liquid nitrogen is commonly used. The nitrogen is sprayed on or applied to the wart. Liquid nitrogen is very cold and the freezing and thawing destroys the wart tissue. To clear the wart fully it can need up to 4-6 treatment sessions, sometimes more. Each treatment session is a couple of weeks or so apart. Don’t use salicylic acid preparations on your face or large areas of skin. This is because it can cause irritation and scarring. If you have a wart or verruca, taking the following measures may help to stop it spreading to other people.

All medicines, including those available over the counter, have the potential of causing side effects. However, just because a side effect is listed, it doesn't mean that you will experience it. If the surrounding skin does become sore, stop the treatment for a few days until it settles. Then re-start treatment. There is also a small risk that you may get a skin allergy to the treatment. If this occurs, the surrounding skin becomes red and itchy.Paints, gels and plasters containing salicylic acid are available from pharmacists (see further down in this leaflet for advice on how to use salicylic acid) Read our guide to recognising the signs & symptoms of verrucas in children & find out more about the treatment options available You need to apply the salicylic acid each day for up to three months. Perseverance is important; if treatment is not continued it is unlikely to work. The paint /gel should be applied carefully to the wart and not the surrounding normal skin. If the wart becomes too sore treatment should be stopped for a few days, and then started again. Applying Vaseline to protect the skin surrounding a wart before applying the salicylic acid may reduce the likelihood of the skin becoming sore You MUST NOT apply salicylic acid to the facebecause of the risk of skin irritation which may cause scarring, or damage to eyesight if it is gets in eyes Some wart and verruca treatments you can buy over the counter from a pharmacy or shop. You apply these yourself at home. Other wart removal treatments are carried out by a GP or specialist doctor. Wart and verruca creams and gels
