About this deal

A tender, funny and surprising meditation on grief and hope . .

That kind of stuff only happens in certain kinds of books and movies, and while they are wonderful and necessary offering escapist loveliness that gives a finger in the nice candy-coated of ways to life’s blisteringly hard realities, Isaac and the Egg is not that kind of story. When Isaac Addy walks into the woods on the worst day of his life and finds something extraordinary there, he already knows he's going to take it home. In a series of scenes that intentionally bring to mind seminal moments from ET, Isaac takes the egg – is it an alien? Some sort of beast? – home, where it becomes a fluffy, yolk-faced lodger, and Isaac’s salvation, as he considers, eventually, how to help it return home.

There are ET vibes and there are laugh out loud moments, but the beauty of this book is in its perfectly paced reveal and the intricate weave between what is real and what is imagined. This debut novel by Bobby Palmer is beautifully written, some parts of the book are so sad and other parts are funny, upon discovering a large egg he nurtures “egg”. Not saying anything else about this book – please read it for yourself, it is a great book. Deborah, NSW, 5 Stars Isaac Addy is contemplating suicide. While standing on the ledge of a bridge, trying to build up the courage to jump off, he suddenly hears some screaming. In following the noise, he stumbles upon a 2 foot high white egg in the forest. Isaac feels a sudden kinship with the abandoned egg and decides to take it home. Thus begins the unexpected journey of Isaac and his strange companion, whom he decides to name ‘Egg’. ( Yeah, not the most imaginative guy, this Isaac!)Heartbreaking and heart-stealing, this modern-day fable is an unforgettable novel about sorrow, joy, friendship and love. I wanted to sit and talk about this wonderful creation while I was absorbing it, because that's what it does, Bobby Palmers narrative will seep into your very pores. You will want to share every last paragraph of this multilayered triumph, while at the same time wanting to stay quiet, to understand what others make of it, wonder whether you share the same thoughts. My advice is to read it with people, many people, experience it with company. The two are unlikely companions. But their chance encounter will transform Isaac's life in ways he cannot yet imagine. An utter sparkler of a novel… highly imaginative, extremely funny and profoundly empathetic’ S UNDAY INDEPENDENT
