It’s refreshing to see a male protagonist who is not believed or taken seriously when warning others about the danger they face – which often mirrors our own real-life experiences – even if it does add an extra layer of tension and disbelief as readers are forced to question whether or not Ed is right in his assumptions about Ryan or if he’s going mad with paranoia. This part is usually filled by a ‘neurotic woman’ who is convinced she is correct. Here we see it filled by a man who thinks he is losing his mind instead! The thing I most enjoy about TM Logan books is that the mystery and suspense builds steadily through the majority of the book then towards the end, as more information comes to light, it hurtles towards an satisfying and unpredictable end. Every one of T.M Logan's books that I've read follows this pattern and it's this that keeps me wanting more. The reader isn't spoon fed, we're simply given snippets of information to piece together to create our own theories and conspiracies. Abbie, a young teacher meets Ryan, a mature man, 10 years her senior. They instantly fall in love. He's well educated, hard working and adores Abbie. He treats her well, respects her and is far superior to the usual low lives she dates- the perfect man for your daughter to marry- right? He shares his concerns with Claire, but she believes Ed is being overcautious. A family tragedy from years earlier plus a bad breakup for Abbie with an old boyfriend has made Ed suspicious of everyone. Ryan, Claire pleads, is a great guy. He volunteers in the community and has a solid corporate job. He takes care of Abbie and is clearly interested in becoming a member of the family. Why can’t Ed see any of that?

The Catch is a hugely suspenseful story and the tension builds up slowly, as Ed travels down an increasingly darker path. How far will a father go? Throughout, the reader is left to wonder about Ryan. But also about Ed himself. It isn’t until the end, when the pieces of the puzzle start to come together, that you realise how cleverly T.M. Logan has plotted this story. NOW A MAJOR TV DRAMA on Channel 5, starring Jason Watkins, Aneurin Barnard, Poppy Gilbert and Cathy Belton.

I was fully invested in this book from the very beginning. I loved being along for the ride, wanting to know what would happen next. The pacing was spot on! As Ed searches for the truth, the tension and suspense grew. I could feel Ed's need for answers coupled with his frustrations. Ed, Abbie's kind and doting father just wants the best for his little girl but he's not entirely convinced that Ryan is the best, surely someone this perfect can't be genuine. Ever heard the phrase too good to be true? All of Ed's instincts tell him his daughter is in terrible danger - but no-one else can see it. With the wedding date approaching fast, Ed sets out to uncover Ryan's secrets, before it's too late . . . I honestly could not rate this any higher. Tim you have worked your magic again, I can't wait to read what's next!

I am a great fan of T.M. Logan having read Lies, The Holiday and I was equally thrilled with The Catch. I loved everything about this book - the story-line, the characters and all of the many twists and turns. Throughout The Catch there was no point where I thought 'aha! I know what's going off here!' I couldn't fathom whether Ryan was a bad guy or whether Ed was losing the plot. I didn't know who, or even if there was a villain. Abbie Collier is hopelessly in love with her boyfriend Ryan Wilson and the happy couple plan to marry. But there's a problem - Abbie's father, Ed, doesn't like the suave, sophisticated Ryan and suspects him of hiding something, although mother, Claire, supports her daughter's choice and thinks he's a good catch. Desperate to prevent Abbie from marrying the wrong man, Ed digs into Ryan's past and in doing so he alienates his wife and daughter. But maybe Ed has other reasons for mistrusting his future son-in-law. The characters had no personality. Ed's concern came across as overbearing and paranoid. There were hints that perhaps he had a shady side but that was never followed up on. Claire pooh-poohed everything he said while Abbie either gushed about Ryan or got upset with Ed. Smart, intense, and with a humdinger of a mid-point twist. I loved it' Gillian McAllister, Sunday Times bestselling author

The Catch book ending then jumped to a year later when Claire and Abbie were laying flowers on Ed and his son’s graves. Ed’s body had been found on the moor, as had the bodies of Ryan’s first wife Lori, his foster mother Eileen and two other unidentified women. By this time Abbie had given birth to her and Ryan’s son and the final words of the book reveal that his eyes were, “His father’s eyes”. The Catch , my fourth book, tells the story of a father who becomes convinced his daughter is about to marry a man with terrible secrets. It has also been made into a four-part TV drama currently on Netflix and starring Jason Watkins, Poppy Gilbert, Aneurin Barnard and Cathy Belton. A teaser shares: “Set against the hauntingly beautiful coastline of the west of England, The Catch introduces us to Ed Collier, a proud husband, father and local fisherman determined to do whatever it takes to keep his family together. Thank you to Bonnier UK Audio, Zaffre and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
