I know that topic was being brought dozens of times, but using similar lists and my own knowledge I've been trying to set some kind of timeline of modern Batman career for more advanced reader, with "Year One" as the starting point and with an important rule: comics must be collected in fairly available trades, physical or digital (with some exceptions where it's necessary). Thanks to similar attempts and help from other Redditors, now I'm sitting on This is technically a reread for me, having read the various parts many years ago at previous times. Batman: Dark Victory by Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale - This story focuses on a series of murders yet again occuring on holidays (one year after TLH) but this time with more supervillains and mob drama. Taken independently the story is entertaining if not a rather simple pastiche of well trodden mob drama and supervillain plots. However, as a series with so much similarity to TLH the more repetitive, stale, and underwhelming qualities become more glaring. Overall it was still a breezy read saved by Sale's immersive art and delivers many entertaining moments even though the story is rather unoriginal. 7.5/10 This is the opening of only the first of the three stories in Haunted Knight. The collection reprints "Fears," "Madness," and "Ghosts," three collaborations between Jeph Loeb’s writing and Tim Sale’s art that became yearly Halloween specials in DC’s Legends of the Dark Knight title from 1993 through 1995. In each story, Bruce Wayne faces a challenge that calls the fundamental principles of his life into question. Ghosts" is a Batman universe version of A Christmas Carol, with Bruce's father Thomas Wayne taking the place of Jacob Marley, and the three spirits being Poison Ivy (the Ghost of Christmas Past), the Joker (the Ghost of Christmas Present), and a Grim Reaper figure (the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come) who turns out to be Batman's ghost. The message from the spirits is that Bruce should not let Batman take over his entire life.

Batman: Haunted Knights collects 3 Halloween Specials of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight (Fears, Madness, and Ghosts) written by Jeph Loeb with art by Tim Sale The graphic novel reprints Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Special #1 (1993), Batman: Madness - A Legends Of The Dark Knight Halloween Special (1994), and Batman: Ghosts - A Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Special (1995) written by Loeb and art by Sale respectively. These stories were specials and spin-offs of Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight series. Batman by Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale Omnibus is a comic anthology collected the wonderful series and one-shots that were written and illustrated by Jeph Loeb Tim Sale respectively. They are considered a legendary team that devised some of the best memorable Batman stories.

Success!

Finally, DC included Catwoman: When in Rome in this edition as well. I was really happy about this. I wasn’t crazy about this book when it first came out, but I ended up enjoying it a little more this time around. Selina makes a trip to Italy, with Edward Nigma in tow, in search of some answers about her own past. Could have used a little more Batman, but what story wouldn’t be better with a little more Batman? I really like Loeb’s Selina and this was a nice little garnish for The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. second story was about the mad hatter and it was inspired by alice in wonderland, it was a great story i specially liked the girl that jim gordon has adopted i never knew he had a girl from adoption before, maybe it happens in this story only i am not really sure as i am not an expert on all things batman..

Bruce's father : "These chains I wear, I forged in life. Link by link, yard by yard, I made this burden. Obsessed with my medical practice, I lost sight of what was truly important." There Bruce's struggles to decide, whether he should stay in happiness with Jillian or should go for crime fighting by leaving Julian(happiness). Batman haunted knight - haunted knight is a collection of 3 short stories you could say, one being about scarecrow, one being about mad hatter and commissioner Gordon and the last being about penguin and batman finding out how in the future when he dies no one will care and the name Batman in the future will be useless to everyone. anyway the spirits teach batman to have some me time and to try and make a legacy for himself outside of crime fighting. The first Batman omnibus I have dug into out of my collection. I was recommended to start here out of all of them, with many proclaiming that a number of these stories are amongst the best ever written for the Gotham City protector. I must admit, that is of slight concern to me, as despite the strength of these stories, and the good time I had with this omnibus, if this is as good as the caped crusader gets. Well, that doesn't speak very highly for his 80 year run. Finally, we get When in Rome. I had hoped this would force Loeb to stop reusing the same ideas. In some ways it did, but not enough. Despite the change in hero and setting, we still get mostly reused villains. (Cheetah is an exciting but head-scratching addition.) The story is oddly paced and feels empty without the rich characters and setting of Gotham and very little to replace them. Invested as I have become in the complex dynamics between the Falcones and Maronis, I don't care at all about the "Mafia." In the end, transplanting so many ideas from Gotham to Italy only serves to make the Loeb version of the DCU feel smaller than ever. Perhaps this title will appeal to Catwoman fans in the audience, but I can't rightfully count myself among them and this entry did not make me a believer. Then a panel confirms all of this where Bruce's father appears in lots of chains and those chains were symbolic representations of his mistakes. While I wasn't crazy about this one (supposedly Batman: Noël has done it better), I did like the final ghost reveal.
