Sure, the core story is still there, but it's the little things that make be wonder, okay, did whoever scripted this version intentionally want to change things up? (It isn't clear if Kinugasa, who wrote the light novels, also scripted the manga for Ichino to draw.) That kind of thing bugged me a bit even with beloved stories like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, that each version was just a little (or a LOT) different. I don’t see the hype around the series. Maybe it gets better in the following books, but right now I feel like it peaked in chapter one.

It would be nice if the other classmates aren't annoyingly dumb. It's such a shame that this isn't a battle royale. That they have these dead weights to carry 'coz they need to perform as a class. I get that only the main characters deserve a cool appearance and personality, but I really find it preposterous that a teacher is dumber than a student (specifically the class C teacher). Cuteness: 2/5- There didn’t seem to be much cuteness in the way any of the characters portrayed themselves, and in fact it was only their physical appearances that gave the impression of cuteness. As someone who values personality over looks, I don’t feel that the cuteness in this volume was noteworthy, or even counted.

While I had some definite issues with this novel it ended up being surprisingly compelling all the same. It starts out seeming like an ordinary student life story at a prestigious school. However, there are hints here and there that something is off. It’s not until the middle of the book that the truth behind what’s going on at the school is revealed.
