Description

Ellie the Elephant is a sweet and caring elephant who enjoys helping her friends. Yet, no matter how much she cares for the other animals, she remains a sad little elephant who never smiled. Four of her closest friends decide to find out why Ellie is so sad, so they follow her around to observe her throughout her typical day. They soon learn that Ellie has a very sad story to tell indeed. The Monkey Who Cried Crocodile is a fun retelling of The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf. Tough Guy Rex is about a rhino that is far too friendly for his family’s expectations. A Flamingo of Many Colors centers on Fatima the flamingo who’s unhappy being the same old boring color, pink. In Prince of the Jungle, Lyle the lion is surprised to suddenly find out he’s a prince.

Activity: Draw a self-portrait of yourself from a picture. Make sure to include everything about yourself. (Eye color, hair color, if your nails are painted, glasses, etc.) After you are done drawing your self-portrait, write a paragraph explaining your favorite thing about yourself and what makes you special and stand out just like Ellie.I love Uncle Amon’s stories. There are always wonderful activities included at the end for kids to explore further. Older children should have no trouble reading these stories alone and younger children should enjoy having them read to them. The rhythm and tempo of this song is often used to teach people the rhythm of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The recommended rate for CPR is 100 chest compressions per minute. A study at Coventry University compared the effectiveness of this song in maintaining this rhythm with an alternative of " That's the Way (I Like It)" and no song at all. The version used for the study was from a Little Acorns brand children's record, and was found to have a tempo of 105 beats per minute. Singing the chorus of the song twice, with a compression on each beat, results in exactly 30 compressions, which is the international standard for CPR. [6]

The use of "Nellie" resulted in correct timing for 42 out of 130 cases, as compared with 15 for no music and just 12 for "That's the Way (I Like It)". However, the depth of compression was found to be inadequate in most of those cases, and the use of "Nellie" was found to increase this inadequacy slightly, as compared with the use of no music (56% too shallow with "Nellie" and 47% without). PMID 20008376. Summary: This book is about a sweet elephant named Ellie. Ellie lives at the zoo with the rest of her zoo friends. One day the zookeeper gathered the animals and told them that the zoo was closing, the animals were heartbroken. All of the zoo animals decided to all pitch in and help clean up the zoo to make it look nicer. Everyone seemed to be able to do something to help but Ellie. Ellie felt like everyone had a talent but her. Ellie took the zookeepers paintbrush and started painting and she made beautiful paintings all around the zoo. Word spread about what Ellie could do. People from all over the world came to have their portrait painted by Ellie. Thanks to Ellie, the zoo was open for good! Authored by Ambassador Callista L. What could each one do to "spruce it up a bit?" Every animal had some ability that they used to clean up the zoo...that is, all but Ellie, the elephant. But one day, the zookeeper left a paint brush out with orange paint still in the bristles. Ellie tried using it. She found that she could paint...flowers, rainbows, animals, people. And she painted everywhere. All around the zoo! Everywhere!
