About this deal

Both can be connected to the home network through an Ethernet cable or wirelessly through the existing Wi-Fi connection. After your initial charge, Eufy says to expect about 180 days of battery life – depending on how many events are triggered in a day and how often you’re pulling up a livestream. Get instant alerts* for anyone who approaches, even if they don’t press the doorbell. Interact with visitors by talking in real-time or via pre-set responses.

Even better, the HomeBase supports up to 16 devices, which means if you ever want to expand your home system with, say, a bunch of Eufy Cam 2 cameras, it’s no hassle. Battery life is rated at around six months, and based on a few weeks’ use, that figure seems about right. In fact, the doorbell definitely lasted longer than the Ring models I’ve tested. Eufy Video Doorbell 2K (Battery-powered) video quality – Excellent video, but a bit soft at night That is a massive advantage to other systems that try to squeeze you for a monthly subscription just to see the footage your camera has recorded.Fancy a high-resolution, battery-powered doorbell minus the monthly costs for cloud video? The Eufy Video Doorbell 2K (Battery-powered) could well be the model for you. Hooking up to the provided HomeBase hub wirelessly, this doorbell can save video to the provided 16GB storage card. There’s no removable battery here, so as is the case with Ring models, you’ll have to remove the entire doorbell to charge it via the micro-USB port on the rear. The HomeBase to which all your footage is recorded comes with 16GB of storage. And since the HomeBase will be located inside, it means that even if the doorbell is stolen, your footage remains safe.

Although the chunky battery means that the doorbell is larger than the mains-only competition, such as the Nest Hello, the Eufy Video Doorbell 2K is tall and narrow, so it should fit on most doorframes without issue. Although this model is wireless, it doesn’t connect to your home network. Instead, it connects to the Eufy HomeBase, a small hub that plugs into your home network via Ethernet. The disadvantage of this is that you’ll have another box lying around; but the advantage is a dedicated wireless connection, which proved to be very strong and stable throughout testing. the Clarity: The built-in Sony 2K sensor and professional-grade lens allow you to view activity in picture-perfect resolution. See visitors in sharp detail as they approach your door. The Eufy Video Doorbell’s one major weakness is that the volume of the chime in the HomeBase box isn’t all that loud, so if you’re upstairs and the HomeBase is downstairs you may struggle to hear it. To connect the video doorbell with Homebase, press the SYNC button on the video camera for about 2 seconds until you hear a beep. The beep indicates that the camera is connected to Homebase via sound. First, you can set the motion sensitivity, dialling it down if you receive too many alerts, or up if you find that it’s missing some. I found that the basic level was good enough for me. Next, the doorbell is set to detect humans only, although you can tell it to detect all motion if you want to capture more. As well as detecting humans, the camera has facial detection, but not recognition. When someone approaches the door, video footage features a thumbnail of a face, so you can see clearly who was calling. The battery life can record continuously for up to 5 days. It starts recording as soon as it detects motion, with a buffer of 3 seconds.

A Crystal-Clear 2K Image: High Definition 2560 x 1920 resolution, combined with our advanced HDR and Distortion Correction, ensures video is recorded in 2x the quality. The downside of having a battery-powered doorbell is that you will have to recharge it via the microUSB port from time to time. Eufy claims the battery will last up to six months between charges, though, so you shouldn’t need to do this very often. Tap the play button and you jump into the live view part of the app, where you can see what’s going on, and trigger a snapshot, recording or enter the two-way chat. The HomeBase acts as a brain for the whole system. It securely stores all the footage – which means, if your camera is ever stolen, all of the video is still safely stored inside. Even better, Eufy uses a proprietary communication technology that’s more power-efficient than standard Wi-Fi, allowing the wireless camera to work for months without recharging. Installation – Battery installation takes only a few minutes; a little longer if you want to wire the doorbell, too.Unfortunately, that means battery life is really dependent on where you keep the camera, what it’s pointing at and how close it is to the street. If you’re living in the city with people constantly passing by, it seems unlikely that it will hold six month’s worth of charge. But out in the country, with only a few triggering events per day, that number feels accurate. Dual Power Options: Half a year of coverage from one charge or non-stop power supply via a wired connection. Both rings and motion detection events are saved to the HomeBase’s integrated 16GB of storage. There’s no way to upgrade this amount, and the 2K footage is quite large, so you’ll get around two weeks of footage. If you hook up other Eufy cameras to the HomeBase, then you’ll seen that storage allocation disappear even faster. An upgrade to let you expand storage via USB is in the works. Again, it’s obviously a your-mileage-may-vary situation so don’t take our numbers – or Eufy’s – as the absolute, definitive battery life, but this should be able to help you set some expectations. Detection performance – Activity Zones help reduce alerts, but the doorbell isn’t overly notification-happy in any case.
