Description

The logo on the game's box art has been updated to resemble the modern Pikmin series logo, along with it now being known as Pikmin 1. The remastered graphics are a nice touch in areas to remind you this is an older game but exciting enough to notice improvement, boasting vivid colours and stunning environmental details. Each area bursts with life, from lush forests to sprawling gardens, making the experience a visual delight. Upon completing Pikmin 1+2, you will see a final analysis screen with your best scores; you may wish to try and beat these. You also have the Piklopedia, a helpful compendium of the creatures and plants you encounter. This is a handy feature for those seeking to delve deeper into the lore and characteristics of the Pikmin world; you can try to fill this out. Furthermore, there are then multiple treasures you can collect. HD versions of the first two Pikmin games, originally released on the Nintendo GameCube system, will launch in Nintendo eShop and in the My Nintendo Store on Nintendo.com later today. The games will be available individually or in a digital bundle that contains both games at a discounted price. A physical version that includes both games will also be available on Sept. 22. With the inclusion of these two games on Nintendo Switch, all four main games in the Pikmin series – Pikmin 1, Pikmin 2, Pikmin 3 and, as of July 21, Pikmin 4 – will be playable on one system.

Pikmin 1 is a port of the original Pikmin to the Nintendo Switch. It was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation on June 21 st, 2023, alongside a port of Pikmin 2. Both were released on the eShop immediately after the presentation concluded. This port is based on New Play Control! Pikmin. Digital Foundry: "It's the same technology at its core. Pikmin 1 and 2 run on an emulator called 'hagi' - Nintendo's own proprietary GameCube and Wii emulator, which emulates the GPU functions of the GameCube, while the CPU side is compiled to run natively on Switch."The Pikmin are adorable, endearing creatures that instantly tug at your heartstrings. Their animated expressions and cheerful demeanour add to the game’s charm, making them more than just simple minions but partners in your adventure. Longevity These sturdy Pikmin are heavy and unbreakable—perfect for smashing crystals or dealing with large, stompy enemies. In the US version, the Wogpole, Wollywog, and Yellow Wollywog are renamed to Wolpole, Wollyhop, and Yellow Wollyhop respectively. From finding a way home to collecting treasure, Olimar (plus Louie in the Pikmin 2 game) must partner with a parade of Pikmin to survive the harshest of conditions. Reintroduce yourself to the plant-like Pikmin and strategic gameplay that this charming series is rooted in,” Nintendo’s description of both games reads.

Both were originally released on GameCube before receiving New Play Control updates on Wii. With Pikmin 2 often hailed as the best game in the series, this will be the first time either game has gotten an official HD release. These are simply aspects that newcomers should be aware of, allowing them to set their expectations accordingly. It’s worth noting that the experience is significantly improved when engaging in portable play. In this magical phenomenon, the smaller screen inadvertently camouflages the previously mentioned blemishes, making them delightfully harder to spot. Both games support optional motion controls for another way to grow and guide your plantlike platoon Darthmoogle - honestly? I agree. With F-Zero it probably wouldn’t sell, But I place a lot of the blame on Nintendo for abandoning the series several console generations ago. While the character models still retain their dazzling charm. One can’t help but notice a slight ambiguity in the textures when the camera closely focuses on the captivating action. Furthermore, keen eyes will readily spot a fair share of pixelated edges lurking in meticulously designed environments. Additionally, the frame rate remains steadfastly glued to 30 frames per second.Meet the Pikmin and use their miniature might to collect your ship pieces and return home in the Pikmin™ game It’s a shame they don’t hold value in what makes this IP so fantastic, and it’s especially annoying that their previous comments in trying to revive the series not working have always been they feel they need to iterate to make it more interesting or unique, when really it’s one of the few series they own where they could just release “yet another but similar”. Don’t miss this opportunity to relive the magic of these beloved classics or experience them for the first time. Join Captain Olimar and his trusty Pikmin companions on a thrilling adventure where friendship, courage, and teamwork can conquer any challenge. Dive in, contribute your skills, and let Pikmin’s wild and wonderful world capture your heart. Gameplay

These strange new Pikmin thrive in the dark, but can also turn into a ball of light so shiny, it can stun enemies! Final Thoughts Happy on land and in water. When the going gets wet, fling them into action to transport treasure or combat a creature. Reintroduce yourself to the plantlike Pikmin and strategic gameplay that this charming series is rooted in. From finding a way home to collecting treasure, Olimar (plus Louie in the Pikmin 2 game) must partner with a parade of Pikmin to survive the harshest of conditions. Both games support optional motion controls for more options when guiding your floral friends. The render of Olimar standing used on his health wheel, the saved game selection menu, and Olimar's voyage log has been updated. On top of the changes common to both this game and Pikmin 2 (Nintendo Switch), which are listed here, the following additional changes exist. Meet Captain Olimar and a capable cast of red, blue, and yellow Pikmin on a dire mission across a larger-than-life planet. Olimar must guide his loveably-leafy companions through obstacles, in battle, and when collecting his missing ship parts. Your oxygen will only last 30 days, but the Pikmin provide a glimmer of hope that you may make it home. Since the attract mode cutscenes have been removed, Japanese players can also no longer hear Ai no Uta. Pikmin 1+2 retains the innovative gameplay mechanics that made the series a standout success. As Captain Olimar, players take on the role of a tiny astronaut, leading hordes of Pikmin to explore and accomplish various tasks. These Pikmin, each with their unique abilities, are crucial to overcoming obstacles, battling predators, and gathering resources.

Taking a broad view of Pikmin 1 and 2 on Switch, there's no escaping the fact both are basic ports. It's a straight translation of each GameCube classic running at 1080p, at 30fps, with AI upscaled cut-scenes, a cleaner UI, but minimal improvements anywhere else. The saving grace is that the gameplay - especially in Pikmin 2 - holds up well enough that they're still worth revisiting. The verdict here boils down to the value proposition Nintendo is making for both games. In principle, seeing more GameCube classics like this make a return on Switch is absolutely fine, even if it's the bare minimum in terms of presentation. F-Zero GX, Mario Kart Double Dash and Super Smash Bros. Melee would be amazing to have at our fingertips on Switch. It's just the matter of the asking price. Olimar must guide his loveably-leafy companions through obstacles, in battle, and when collecting his missing ship parts.High-flying Pikmin that can carry stuff over water and lift obstructions. They’re also good at battling enemies that can fly. Perhaps it is simply that it’s too close to TOTK to announce? But then, considering it’s their best selling Zelda title, I would want to capitalise on that by saying “look what’s coming later this year…” You’d please the traditionalists with a re-release on one end, and bring in a whole bunch of new players from BOTW / TOTK to see what came before. Whoa—a single Purple Pikmin has the strength and weight of 10 regular Pikmin! Because of this extra oomph, Purple Pikmin can stun enemies when thrown and carry heavier objects. It also makes them slower on their feet. Instead of a dark filter closing in around a creature to highlight it, a smear effect is instantly placed. Overall, Pikmin 1+2 offers an exceptional gaming experience. Both games showcase the perfect blend of strategy, puzzle-solving, and adventure while telling compelling stories. The remastered versions improve upon the original releases with enhanced graphics and audio. Whether you are a long-time fan of the Pikmin series or a newcomer, these games are must-play titles.
