About this deal

It’s an easy read that offers insight not only into pregnancy and birth, but also on those early days of motherhood. This is a great book to help reassure any first-time mum about the subject of labour and any anxiety around the baby’s due date. Becoming pregnant is a beautiful moment in anyone's life, but we understand that it can be daunting too! This comprehensive pregnancy book is perfect for first-time parents, with everything from early fetal development to how your hormones prepare you for birth. Overall, I would highly recommend this book as a really nice gift to anyone going through pregnancy as it's very approachable. It's the only pregnancy book I read, as the last thing I wanted to do was slog through "What to Expect" or any of those more in-depth books, as a Google search could generally answer all my questions. Then again, I'm past my due date and I've never once called my midwife so maybe I'm just too casual about the whole thing. "No blood, no problem" is my pregnancy motto. :) The book is written by Dr Maggie Blott who is a Consultant Obstetrician at University College Hospital, London. She jointly manages a multi-disciplinary high-risk antenatal clinic and runs the labour ward. She’s also a spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London, a regular columnist for Top Sante magazine and she regularly writes for a number of other pregnancy-related publications. She’s definitely an expert in the field!

Key concept : Conversations and examples around mental health, anxiety, effects of anxiety and mindfulness techniques during pregnancy. Key concept : A timeline of the pregnancy journey using images, boxouts and listicles to help describe possible pregnancy symptoms, exercise techniques and much more. Mind Over Mother, by Anna Mathur: The best pregnancy book to prepare you for the fourth trimester and beyond The chapters at the end of the book are very thorough ones about birth itself including pain relief options and detailed descriptions (and images!) of the different stages of birth. There’s also information about different types of assisted deliveries, inductions, multiple births and Cesarean sections. Then there’s information about what happens straight after your baby is born and the first 12 hours after. It’s so important to know as much as possible about labour and giving birth. It can really help you make informed decisions and I also believe that it will help prepare you mentally for the pain and the whole process. To feel more empowered during pregnancy, and to ensure that you’re really taking your pregnancy into your own hands, read this book by Rebecca Fett. You and your partner will have a better understanding of your baby’s brain development during pregnancy, alongside many other issues from the use of vitamins right through to your baby’s first year.

So which pregnancy books are the best? From books for first-time mums, to guides about positive birthing, hypnobirthing, home births, water births and the fourth trimester, there’s a huge variety on the market to choose from. We’ve reviewed some of the best pregnancy books around and also provide a brief guide about what to look for when shopping for them.

If you’re feeling apprehensive about it all, joining the hypnobirthing club could be the way to make you feel more confident, and possibly even excited, about giving birth. Whether you choose to embark on a hypnobirthing journey or not, this book provides a lot of advice for you and your birth partner to help each other feel relaxed and supported during the stages of labour. This is also one of those books that you’ll want to gift to all your pregnant friends after reading it. In my opinion, a good pregnancy book is a pregnancy must have. It’s important to be well informed about all the changes happening to your body and your baby for medical reasons and it really helps with bonding too. Hypnobirthing has been around for over 30 years, with methods and techniques evolving over time. Plenty of women swear by this movement, with some even claiming that childbirth can be euphoric. Whatever your journey into motherhood, this book on hypnobirthing is a great read and can apply to all types of births. It’s a fun, informative read that touches on, among other things, the science behind labour. Mums-to-be will be left feeling informed and positive after reading this informative book. With a handy reference guide describing everything from emotions during pregnancy to talking about what’s to come, this book is one you’ll turn to again and again throughout those magical nine months. There’s plenty of information on changes to your body, the baby growing inside and a section at the end on the different stages of labour, too.

The book is fully updated to reflect any changes in medical practice and this is the very latest edition. No other pregnancy book provides this level of detail and the book is full of comprehensive advice from a team of experts. This is exactly what I want in a book about a topic that’s so important when you’re going through it yourself. Key concept : Positive birthing, hypnobirthing, information to help mothers understand the process of pregnancy and how to make their own choices.
