The dynamics of the relationship she had with Riot transforms to completely new level with Bullet added to the equation, in the best way possible, and I cannot wait to add two more figures and discover how that would work out!

You might know your neighbors name if you live here, or your wife may have friends in the community garden but there is very little left of any roots, ethnic tradition, or the “Cheers” factor at local businesses, when maybe 20 or so years ago a corner bar or store still felt like an extention of home. Welcome to our charming bed & breakfast, ideal for a tasteful romantic break-away, or the discerning business traveller. A-State-of-Grace is reminiscent of a friendly and loving HOME atmosphere, Air-con in every room, reliable high-speed WIFI, and possibly the best breakfast you've ever had with also the best view in the world. I totally feel ya on the storyline. I was really peeved at how 1-dimensional all the secondary characters were. Especially Gabe?!? Like how was I supposed to ship that. NOTHING HAPPENED. They didn't even really talk much! I know it was first love and they were young and etc. etc. But Gabe had the personality of a very dead pancake. 😂 All of that is to say that your blog resonates with me as much as mine resonates with you. And I think that’s because the more honest specificity we put into our writing, the more universally relatable it — and we— become. So that you of all people would stop to say how much you connect with some of these essays is just about the highest compliment I could receive! Thank you — and likewise. Because the entitled hipsters annexing Brooklyn for its “authenticity” measured that quality only in pints of craft beer poured, in shots of artisanal espresso brewed, and not for a New York minute in the actual hardscrabble experiences of the people born and raised there. And so taco stands are transformed into tapas bars, tenements rechristened “boutique co-ops” and priced for a decidedly better class of people. The current occupants? Well, they’re relocated, through instruments of gentrification, so they can be free to be authentic— ethnic and poor — elsewhere. Because their kind of authenticity is like hearing about your stripper’s sexually abusive childhood: It’s detrimental to the fantasy you’re paying for. So, a way of life comes to an end, its culture extracted like some kind of natural resource and reduced to a sanitized, commodified theme park, as free of minorities as it is of GMOs.

Right. Dr. Horrible was creative, experimental, entertaining, and met with overwhelmingly positive reception! (That said, I haven’t seen it in fifteen years, so I can’t offer an assessment of its moral imagination.) If I’m Joss Whedon at the height of my power and influence (before things went to shit for him), I’d much rather work outside the system than be an indentured servant to it! That’s what George Lucas did so enviably in the 1970s: He bought his independence from Hollywood. Also per Wikipedia:

We establish who the other two bonds will be and get their POV. That was interesting and I can’t wait for them all to be together. Her relationship with her best friend also felt realistic. The friend, Anna, is described as the kind of person who is friends with everyone. She also helps Grace with some social stuff, e.g., interpreting ambiguous text messages. Although not universal, this is a common real-life friendship pattern I’ve seen described in non-fiction. Grace also mentions some reasons why Anna is friends with her: she makes Anna laugh and they have shared interests in fandom. This lets us see their friendship is not one-sided. I found it so great to read life described through a sensory experience (such as going to Boots) to which I could relate and would have found this so helpful when I was younger. To experience situations (which you are expected to enjoy) differently from those around you can be isolating at a time when you are trying to find your identity whilst so much around you changes. Jules, I am absolutely delighted you stopped by the blog to share your thoughts on State of Grace; I hope this won’t be your last visit.
