THE RETURN is the first novel I have read by Rachel Harrison. To say that I was impressed is an understatement--this novel grabbed me from the start, and I didn't want to put it down until I had ALL the answers. Of course, that meant I was completely invested until the very end. TREATMENT: We gave her “Shining”s signed copy and poured a big glass of wine to shout her up! And of course we stole her dancing shoes so she is not gonna scare the other unhappy readers ( We have a huge group stopped by lately who recently read “Testament” and they’re in big pain right now!!! Terribly sorry for big Handmaid’s Tale fans!) This was a story of why a loved one died mid-adventure and what he was up to, who was Callie and why was she so closed up and why was Natalie the way she was. It was a tale cleverly woven together, I felt like I almost got there with some of my guesses but they were just out of reach. When the reveals came, I was all ‘oh my’. Julie has been missing for two years and presumed dead, but now she has returned. Something doesn't seem right with Julie and what should be a happy reunion turns odd and scary when the friends getaway together at an isolate extravagant hotel.

HE TOSSED JARS OF HONEY AWAY. Honey basically doesn’t go bad and for as much freaking time as this book spent on bees, are you kidding me? And then his grandpa’s furniture ended up in the dump?! Free to a good home, dude. I think this book had a solid premise and while the execution wasn't perfect, I will give points to the author for at least thinking outside the box. This wasn't a typical mystery or thriller, she did get a bit creative here which is something I appreciate as I am a huge reader and anytime I get the chance to read something unusual or different, I think it's a good thing. Having said that though, I do understand why some readers might find the storyline a disappointment.

You will need to suspend a great deal of believability for this to work. But if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary with a chilling quality, this is the book for you! I have no aspirations to ever write a novel, but if I did, it would probably be similar to this. Take from that what you will. Once all the women have arrived, they joke and laugh and try to make the best of their uncomfortable surroundings. At it's heart, this is really an examination of friendship, if you can believe that from a horror novel, but those friendship aspects tugged at my heartstrings a little bit.

Much credit is deserved here, to find such a fresh field amongst the hordes of undead programming assaulting our screens just now is a real achievement. Twins Virginia and Tommy Matthews have been on their own since they were orphaned at the age of five, surviving a merciless foster care system by relying on each other. Twelve years later, the world begins to collapse around them as a deadly contagion steadily wipes out entire populations and a devastating world war rages on. When Tommy is drafted for the war, the twins are faced with a choice: stay and accept their fate of almost certain death, or run. Virginia and Tommy flee into the dark night.Thank you so much to the publisher, Berkley Publishing, for providing me a copy of this to read and review. It was a fantastic time! As she begins to physically decay before their very eyes, the friends have to come to grips with the fact that something is seriously wrong. Considering Julie's odd behavior and appearance, not to mention the smell, none of them want to broach the topic with her.

With spare, elegant prose and searing emotional depth, award-winning poet Jason Mott explores timeless questions of faith and morality, love and responsibility. A spellbinding and stunning debut, The Returned is an unforgettable story that marks the arrival of an important new voice in contemporary fiction. Molly - I have absolutely nothing to say about this character. She, in my opinion, didn’t add anything to plot. She’s one of those characters that can be cut without any ill effect.Harold initially refuses to see the Returned Jacob as his son, as he had been the one to pull Jacob's body out of the river, but Lucille fully embraces his return as a miracle. As the novel progresses Harold slowly softens to Jacob's presence, even going so far as to willingly accompany the boy when the military imprisons all of the Returned at an Arcadian schoolhouse. While imprisoned, Harold is made the temporary caretaker of an elderly woman with dementia, Patricia – a woman he later discovers is Bellamy's mother, as the agent knew that Harold would treat her with consideration. All her friends have no common, talking like teenagers not nearly 30 years old people, keep saying “I love you’”s but they don’t have any idea why the hell they love each other so much are really worried about their friends. But they don’t ask what is going with her. After reading this book, I'm amazed that I ever liked any of Nicholas Sparks books. In hindsight, I realise that I perhaps liked the movies better, because of the added factors of music and good-looking faces. If this book is like any of his previous books, then suffice to say that these stories are abysmally boring and pathetic, and if you like Nicholas Sparks and hate on twilight, then you are literally worthless and have zero appreciation for good writing. Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group to share this ARC COPY in exchange my honest review. I wish I could enjoy it like the last thrillers I’ve read lately.
