Description

Instead of being perched on the side of the cot or on furniture from various angles, Nanit is designed to be positioned directly above the cot, fitted to the wall without cables. This gives you a Full HD view of your little one no matter where they wriggle and find themselves in the middle of the night. The motion sensor works via batteries (which aren’t included) but positioning the motion pad is relatively straightforward, placing it underneath the mattress where your baby is positioned during the night. What is the audio and video quality like? It also offers 1080p video footage for clear visibility. The item is lightweight and extremely easy to set up, although you will need Wi-Fi to set it up and operate it. It comes in either baby blue or baby pink and has little teddy bear (blue) and bunny (pink) ears on top of the camera as an extra little design perk. It’s also made from safe and non-toxic materials. You should ensure there is no vibration in or near the nursery, soi that the sensor pad is monitoring only your baby's movements. The motion pad also uses battery power rather than the mains, so there are no trailing wires or exposed cords to worry about near your baby’s cot. Is it easy to keep clean?

Movement sensors: Some monitors, generally on the more expensive end of the spectrum, come with a movement sensor that can be slipped under your baby’s mattress. This will detect your little one’s breathing and will sound an alarm if no movement is detected after a given period of time. It can be great for extra peace of mind, particularly with newborns. How do video baby monitors work? Alex: I would maybe recommend this to other mums as the camera is very high quality, especially the night vision. Once the sensitivity of the movement pad has been correctly adjusted it is great to give parents peace of mind. However, I do not feel it is very good value for money. I also feel like this product is better aimed at newborn babies who do not love around much, as I have a 9-month-old who actively moves around her cot bed and the movement pad only covers a small section of her cot. Jessica: Yes I think I would absolutely choose this product above any of the others. I’ve used two other leading brand monitors in the last 5 years and this is, without a doubt, the best I’ve used. I also have friends and family who have seen our monitor and have been amazed at how brilliant it is. I think for its ease of use, 360 vision, movement sensor and excellent night vision it is the best of the best. I cannot fault anything about this product.

Do you need Wi-Fi for your baby monitor?

Now press and hold the alarm button on the side of the sensitivity control box while switching on the movement sensor pad by turning the dial towards high.

Bringing your newborn baby home can be overwhelming. With a 4.3” night vision monitor, cry sensor and motion pad in one handy set, the Tommee Tippee Dreamee can provide additional peace of mind to help parents get some much-needed shut-eye between night feeds. What we like If you prefer not to use the pole, the petite camera can be removed and placed directly on a straight and sturdy surface on its own. This is a rechargeable camera so it doesn’t have to be plugged in to operate, so there are no hazardous wires anywhere near your baby. The battery life is impressively long and can comfortably last all night, but it’s advisable to charge it daily to ensure it never runs out of juice. In our test, we were impressed by the picture quality of the Yoo Moov and the camera’s ability to feed us a wide, live image of the nursery, moving almost silently so as not to wake the baby. Quite why you need to see 360 degrees around the entire room is a bit of a mystery to us, however.

How we tested

Pros: Clear 1080p wide-angle camera; smart sleep analytics; useful danger zone and cry detection; grows with your child

In the past, baby monitoring technology was, for the most part, a walkie talkie. You could hear your baby from another room. This evolved into the monitors only being activated when a sound was detected then to the use of cameras that utilised movement detection as well, which represent the majority of baby monitors on the market today. However, there is baby monitoring tech coming to market as we speak, from wearable options, both for the parent to use to see their baby or the baby to wear to have their sleep analysed. How do phone baby monitors work? Most of the devices in this list connect to your home Wi-Fi, offering audio or video. First, think about the Wi-Fi signal in your home. If your baby's nursery has a limited signal, for example, and you want a smart baby monitor you might want to also look at Wi-Fi extenders. For those overnight feeds during the early newborn phase, the monitor can also be used to send feeding reminders, alerting you that it’s time to feed your baby once a set interval of time has passed. Included in the kit you'll find a compact movement sensor pad that fits discreetly under your baby's mattress. Our tester Jenny was initially worried that her child would be able to feel the pad underneath, but they were unaware and the pad did a good job of alerting Jenny when her child rolled around and moved in any direction. Our parent tester overall found the menu system on easy to understand but less responsive compared to others she had tested such as the VTech RM7767HD Baby Monitor. The built-in room thermometer is great for peace of mind during peak hot and cold seasons and can reduce the need for a stand-alone nursery thermometer. It’s worth noting however that this rounds up to the nearest whole degree; so not as specific as some stand-alone thermometers. Is the Tommee Tippee Dreamee safe? Leave to charge for 4 hours or until the red light indicator turns off. Note: The battery life of the movement sensor mat lasts up to 90 days.
