Description

Very smooth feel, removing the need to lube the switch (if you insist, do try them without lube first);

The “D” describes the profile, corresponding to the feeling from top to bottom. A “D-bump” starts at top, and ends very close to bottom-out. If you disassemble your switches please watch this video on the correct assembly procedure to prevent damaging the leaf and causing inconsistent tactility. https://youtu.be/8ZSlVkCLBWY The combination of the two colors makes the Boba U4 appear milkier than Gateron Milkies, and creamier than NK Creams. Side Notes: The keyboard I will use as a base is the Keychron K8, so at least 88-90 switches are needed. Spring weight I desire is 60-65g bottom out (like Cherry MX Reds). I live in Germany :) Creating a good silent tactile switch is always infinitely harder than creating a good silent linear switch, without a doubt. As I’ve mentioned previously in my Keebwerk Tacit review, the reason that this is because there is a significantly greater inability to remove sound from tactile switches while keeping them truly tactile due to the interaction between the stem leg and leaf often causing noise known as ‘leaf ping’. That being said, it is almost as if Gazzew read my exact words regarding this difficulty and made it directly into a change under the listing of a “new leaf design.”Leaf is factory lubed, but slide rails/rail-slots are dry. We do not feel that they require lubing, but we leave that decision up to you. Gazzew’s Boba U4 silent tactile switch is one of the more compelling switches to be released in quite some time, and is one of the most exciting tactile switches since the Holy Panda. The housing is a little difficult to open, however, and the switch itself feels a bit scratchy and mushy compared to regular tactile switches. This is to be expected from a silent switch, and the Boba U4 is actually quite smooth for being a silent tactile switch. BOBA PLASTIC IS BEING DISCONTINUED AS A RESULT ALL PURPLE & PINK BOBA PLASTIC THAT IS AVAILABLE CURRENTLY IS THE LAST THAT WIL BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE NEW PLASTIC HAS BEEN PRODUCED. I may make other colors available for LT & Bobagums but that will be determined when all of the bases have been used. There will be a new plastic replacing boba plastic that will be added in the future in place of the boba plastics. If you’re looking for a balance, JWK is probably the way to go right now - so in this vein I’d echo recommendations for the T1 Shrimps. I don’t think JWK has a light silent tactile at the moment, but that’s probably a matter of time.

Actuation occurs after the bump, so you may be reminded of a membrane keyboard even more in that actuation could be tied with bottom-out depending on your typing style. The pearl housings, when paired with a low-profile case, makes the diffused RGB lighting look perfect under floating keycaps. Should You Lube Boba Switches?

Remarks

Last but definitely not least is the bright pink colourway of the Bobagum switch. The dark pink stem and light pink housing lend to a unique, eye-catching design that sets it apart from other switches in the market now. Personally, I’m not a big fan of the colour pink, but I do quite like the aesthetic of the Bobagum. The Bad Stuff The Frozen Silents don’t escape the trade-off game - they have a loose grip on keycaps, and there’s a good chance you’ll need some PTFE shower-head tape to make a good fit.) First, some sounds. I recorded all of these some time ago on my kitchen table with an old iPhone, a foot or two away from the keebs sitting on a folded hand towel: While these are also another Gazzew switch, the Silent Sky switches are still noticeable louder than the Boba U4s, which I would likely chalk up in large part to the ‘mysterious’ plastic compound used in the housing of these new switches.
