El origen de los villancicos, las canciones típicas de la Navidad". historia.nationalgeographic.com.es (in Spanish). 21 December 2020 . Retrieved 24 December 2022. written by Alfred Hans Zoller, translation by George Cooper in 1890, music by Amanda Kennedy in 1883 A Christmas carol in a Calypso style. This song probably comes from Trinidad, but it is often also sung in Jamaica. It was made popular when it was included in a piano songbook of Christmas carols by Edric Connor in 1945. The chorus is in a ‘call and response’ format.

Of the first four stanzas a rendering into Latin:—“Angeli, sancta regione lucis," by the Rev. R. Bingham, appeared in his Hymnologia Christiana Latina, 1871, pp. 79-81. Two other stanzas are occasionally added. One is from another Montgomery hymn based on Philippians 2; it begins “Though an infant now we view Him.” The other is a doxological stanza from the Salisbury Hymn Book of 1857, which begins “All creation, join in praising.” Tune: Based on a poem by the English poet Christina Rossetti, this carol was written sometime before 1872 in response to a magazine request for a Christmas poem. The poem became recognised as a carol after it appeared in The English Hymnalin 1906, with music by Gustav Holst.Rather than celebrating the birth of Christ, the text of this hymn represents Christ’s triumphant return. The words, dreamed up by English writer Isaac Watts, are based on the second half of Psalm 98 in the Bible. In the late ’90s, it was named the most-published Christmas hymn in North America. You can just feel the merriness pouring out of it. The word "fum" may imitate the sound of a drum (or perhaps the strumming of a guitar). "Fum" means "smoke"(noun) in Catalan. words: Isaac Watts based on Psalm 98, music: arranged by Lowell Mason based on themes in Handel's Messiah Whether you favor time-honored classics, prefer seeking out little-known songs for a change of pace, or love listening to the newest release, there are plenty of Christ-honoring Christmas songs to fill your seasonal playlist. Let the music of this season draw your heart towards worship of the newborn King who now reigns in glory. May you have a wonderful, meaningful Christmas focused on Him! As one of the most commonly sung Christmas carols, you might be surprised to hear that this Welsh Melody (Nos Galan) was originally sung with original (and rather bawdy) words! The Welsh tune has English lyrics penned in 1862 by a Scot, Thomas Oliphant.

Reijo Pajamo. Taas kaikki kauniit muistot. Joululaulujen taustat ja tarinat. P. 68. WSOY, Finland, 1982. ISBN 951-0-11444-8. John Rutter’s Shepherd’s Pipe Carol is recognisable by its jaunty rhythm and flute-like introduction which mimics the sound of pipe music. Rutter actually wrote the carol whilst an undergraduate at university, and it was the first piece of his ever to be published. This uplifting Advent carol was a relatively recent addition to the canon of Christmas music, written by Roman Catholic composer Bernadette Farrell in the early 1990s. It describes the waiting for Christmas as a journey through darkness towards light.

Forget not to show love unto strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2" In this song, Andrew Peterson joyfully invites believers to “come, listen to the old, old story, of the power of death undone, by an infant born of glory, Son of God, Son of Man.” This is the first song in a collaborative album of original Christmas songs called Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tale of the Coming of Christ ( Wikipedia.org). 4.
