Description

This Code of Practice provides advice on in-service inspection and testing to determine whether electrical equipment is fit for continued service. It reinforces the need of the duty-holder to conduct inspection and testing of equipment by considering the risks the equipment is exposed to, the environment it is used in, along with the skill level of the user. A No, Codebreakers gives a scenario and suggested observations, followed by an infringement and a code. For a different circumstance, it may be that the inspector wishes to choose different observation wordings or a different code, this is a real-world requirement and inspectors always have this option, however it detracts from the level playing field approach that NAPIT is striving to achieve. The 18th Edition has been further updated to include two subsequent amendments as BS 7671:2018+A2:2022. Although at first glance this may seem to be a problem installation practice, in reality, there is unlikely to be a problem, and I don’t see as it needs to be coded; indeed, I’d struggle to find a Regulation that it directly infringes. There is also the reality that to remedy it would be impractical as the wall structure coverings would need to be removed entirely and replaced, which isn’t likely to happen.

The prospect of anything larger being there would need a call to pest control and not anything the electrical designer could foresee in a general installation. Things become a little more in-depth with thatched roofs, farms and remote installations, but the considerations here are generally confined to conductor and cable damage from wildlife.Distribution Equipment including Cable Management (894) Apply Distribution Equipment including Cable Management filter The initial information has been extended and now covers more information to guide contractors, inspectors, and clients through the pitfalls of this highly technical area of the industry.

Please let us know should you like to discuss anything and we’ll get you in touch with an electrician who can provide a professional advice! Existing codes updated to the new BS 7671:2018+A2:2022. Hundreds of new observations and codes added: Is there a likelihood that foreign objects and wildlife can access the rear of the accessory? This is a possibility, however even an IP4X requirement would not stop the onslaught of insects that may cause a problem in a very extreme case. If we look at larger wildlife, the general rule of thumb is that a mouse can squeeze through a hole the diameter of a standard pen, so that rules out any protection afforded from the IP2X requirement. The IET Wiring Regulations is the national standard to which all domestic and industrial wiring must conform. Wireless charging - expansion of coverage of this area as its potential begins to be established and realised Our goal is to provide one stop place for electricians and electrical contractors, but we are happy to help other clients too. Codebreakers: Well, what can I say, there are modifications, and then there are “modifications”! The manufacturer may not allow this kind of modification to its boards, and we should stress that it shouldn’t be done. In this case, however, we have to look at the merits of the modification and the location. This dry lining type pattress box is being used in the absence of the correct barrier, which is most likely just a plastic shroud.

New for BS 7671:2018, The 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, NAPIT’s industry-leading EICR Codebreakers book. If the devices themselves were accessible to isolate and reset, there were no signs of mechanical damage, IP infringements, or thermal damage; I would see this as a C3. There is no potential threat to life in this scenario, however, there is room for improvement. NAPIT have officially released a digital version of their industry leading publication, EICR Codebreakers. It is essential to all those concerned with the design, installation and maintenance of electric wiring in buildings. MARTYN REES: New consumer unit required? Customer wasn’t sure if he needed any work doing on his mains end!!! Well, this one beggar’s belief. I’ll try and go through the issues as I see them. JUSTIN NEEDHAM: This one would have given Mr Rat a toothache! Thoughts of the new regulations for AFDDS spring to mind.

We’ll do our best to improve our already competitive prices where possible.General requirements - updated in line with the very latest amendment to BS 7671 (specifically within Section 722) If the inspector is removing the front cover and has caused the misalignment, I’d be concerned that the devices and CU were still live as both the main switch and circuit breaker are indicating the ‘on’ position. They may well be isolated elsewhere, which we can’t tell from this picture. Safe isolation is of paramount importance and can’t be stressed enough.
