Unlike every other integrated canister stove we tested, the MiniMo has actual metal pot handles with rubber insulation (so they don’t feel hot — though some customers complain that the joints can burn you). To be honest, both stoves are great for adjusting the heat from light simmer to a full boil. BUT if I’ve to choose one I would go with the MightyMo, it features a 4 full-turn regulator which gives you very good simmering control.

They also don't expire or go bad - although the valve can start to deteriorate (probably would take almost decades though)... Regardless, you can think of investing in a Jetboil CrunchIt to ensure emptying the cans completely and making them recycling bin ready. Boiling Speed One of the nice little aspects of the MightyMo’s design is the pot support arms. There is substantially more surface area than any compact propane stove I’ve used! An additional advantage canister fuels have over liquids is that they don’t require priming, preheating or pumping! If you prefer using these canisters, make sure you read my post about the things you should know about butane canisters as a hiker , though. The WindBurner also has an insulated sleeve and handle. Although these are minor additions, they give it a much more user-friendly design than the Reactor.

As I mentioned before, JetBoil’s own “Jetpower” fuel, as well as some other more “premium” fuels, uses a specific mixture. It’s composed of 80% isobutane and 20% propane. In 2021, Jetboil released one of the most anticipated stoves on the market, the Jetboil Stash. The Stash is part minimalist canister stove, part integrated stove. As a result, the Jetboil Stash takes the best parts of both kinds of stoves. It’s lighter and more compact than any other integrated stove on the market, including our winner for integrated stove, the Jetboil Minimo. Yet, the Stash has the fuel efficiency of an integrated system. That’s one reason it almost immediately sold out after its release. JetBoil stoves work well in most all weather conditions, including serious cold thanks to an internal regulator that’s designed to provide steady performance down to 20-degrees Fahrenheit (-6 Celcius). Like many canister stoves, they tend to struggle a bit when the wind starts blowing through, so you’ll want to seek out a windbreak of some kind (or build your own) to get the best performance out of your JetBoil when its windy out. Cooking Features A newly designed diaphragm in the stove’s regulator also aids to Jetboil’s claim of "stable cooking down to temperatures of 20°F". Testing has shown no change in operation, regardless of temperatures (range tested between 25°F-70°F).

Accommodates a Jetboil skillet and FluxRing cooking pot without the need for pot support (fuel, skillet, and pot sold separately) Although we’ve chosen the MightyMo as our best JetBoil stove, there really isn’t a universal “best” choice out there. The MightMo is an incredible stove, which is powerful and compact, yet also has great cooking potential thanks to its highly-adjustable burner. Ultimately it’s the versatility (and price!) of this little wonder than got it to the top of our list, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only serious choice. The WindBurner can’t be used as a gourmet cooking system. The WindBurner also doesn’t have as much temperature control as the WhisperLite. If you want to sauté, go with the WhisperLite. The Jetboil SUMO has the same features as the MiniMo, but with a 1.8L cook pot instead of a 1.0L one. It’s designed for couples or small groups, but is underpowered for that task, with the same 6000 BTU power stove as the MiniMo and MicroMo. While you can simmer with the SUMO, I’d recommend upgrading to the 10,000 BTU Jetboil MightyMo stove if you plan to cook for more than two people or want to use wider and higher capacity pots and pans for meal preparation.

Read More Watch your sleeves when lighting your stove. Thin material, especially that of wind shirts, is quite susceptible to melting if it comes anywhere close to a flame. Esbit stoves also have arguably the lightest weight fuel requirement and most efficiency per 1 L per burn. However, an Esbit stove can be difficult to light and often have a fishy odor. Additionally, solid fuel tablets can be difficult to find and take much longer to boil water than a gas stove. For a while, solid fuel stoves were allowed on Forest Service and Park Service land even when alcohol stoves were banned. Now that the loophole has been closed, I’m less enamored with Esbit stoves. Additionally, as fuel canister stove technology has gotten more efficient in burn time and weight, there are fewer reasons to use Esbit stoves. ALCOHOL STOVE
