Upon falling into a pool of primordial ooze she returned in an altogether more monstrous form, slaying her fellow knights in a fit of rage before the red thirst could be quieted. Now found among the equally bestial Avengorii dynasty, she leads her fellow vampires with the dignity of a true warrior queen, all the while fighting an unwinnable war against her own base instincts. A brutal ruler and effective warlord, Mannfred is Nagash’s ace in the hole when it comes to territorial conquest. You can learn all about this returning deity in Broken Realms: Kragnos, which will finish out the series with a bang. The Avengorii are known for many strange rituals intended to feed their monstrous nature. Other vampires look upon these with bewilderment and disdain but the lords of the dynasty are too deranged, seeing their trials as holy acts they endure to achieve true communion with their so-called ‘curse’. The Legion of Night prefer to use hordes of the undead to slow the enemy down and act as bait, while powerful vampires sweep in to claim glory once they sense an easy kill.

As it turns out, rumours of Radukar the Wolf’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Now known as the Beast, his animal rage has been unleashed. He bides his time prowling Shyish and plotting revenge. Swollen with power and corrupted in form, he has retained his animal cunning, lust for power, and thirst for blood (and that wolf-pelt cloak, which honestly fits better now). A hideous amalgamation of bat, drake, and humanoid body, Vai is nevertheless possessed with a sliver of self-control and even conscience. She remembers the pride she felt as a fierce warrior queen, and she hasn’t allowed herself to succumb completely to her instincts. One thing I didn't mention in the write up is their fantastic debuff aura reducing the rend of nearby units. This is absolutely one of the biggest reasons to run them, and is amazing support for blood knights especially. Between that, their speed, their combat ability, and being a monster, you can basically read 'undeniable impulse' in the absolute worst case way - ie you can take it as 'this model may not use command abilities ever, with no positive trade off at all' - and they'll still be a good and strong unit option. My frustration with Vengorian rules is entirely them being the closest available alternative to the absent mounted vampire lord (unless your opponent allows anvil of apotheosis), while really not quite working as that. If you can set that aside and just view them as entirely their own thing - or maybe as an alternative to the long gone Vampire Lord on Abyssal Terror - then they really are very good.

The Avengorii are generally lucid and sane with the majority being well aware of their ghastly appearance and even make a show of revelling in this apparent disgust, although this could simply be a way of coping with the transformation they have wrought unto themselves. [3a] RitualsOn the tabletop, the variety of Vyrkos Heroes, including Radukar the Beast and Belladamma Volga, all count as generals if taken in a Vyrkos army. That makes them a great option for players who like strong support from leaders and Wizards. While these abilities are available for all Soulblight armies, the choice of your army’s ‘Cursed Bloodline’ will open even more experimental possibilities. All have some gameplay quirk that ties to their thematic origins, and will influence your army’s playstyle. Legion of the Night, for instance, grants +1 to your save rolls for all Deadwalker and Deathrattle units in the first turn, and lets you keep half your units to deploy as reserves. It’s a great option if you like malleable tactical plays, and want to start the battle one foot forward.
