About this deal

At first, there was bare existence. A mass of conflicting feelings and instinctual reactions. Thought, without thought. Feeling without feeling.

Meimei, at least, had been happy about that. I glanced up from my sawing to look at my wife, who was standing in front of the house at the ready, her arms raised. She had a big grin on her face, her purple eyes flashing as she prepared herself. But what kept me going, and made me laugh out loud way more than usual (enough for Melissa to remark on), were the farm friends. Big D the rooster is fun, sure, but Chunky stole my heart and Tigger shouldered her way in somehow as well. Essentially, Jin creates a farmily with his sapient, cultivator critters and they are a delight. Add finding a fine lady to love and appreciative neighbors and I was all-in before I was even halfway through the novel. A giggle broke me out of my examination of my work and I turned to regard the little man who was sitting beside a boar, the creature’s massive bulk shielding him from the sun. Look at my little brother. All grown up and bein’ a man, learnin’ how to take care of his own farm.” Yun Ren wiped an imaginary tear from his eye, Gou Ren snorted in response. His body soared through the air. His legs lashed out with strength unknown to his lesser kin. He danced as the Great Master danced. He did breath, as the Great Master drew breath. Seriously, the humor was broad and with a heart to it that drew me in completely. I'm calling this an easy five stars and only wish I knew who to recommend it to because it is just so weird. This reads a little like a deconstruction of the genre, what with all the criticism peppered at the arrogance, entitlement, and overall destructive nature of cultivators, presumably the Canadian author speaking with the protagonist's voice against the more problematic aspects on an otherwise beloved genre. I wouldn't know, as this was the first novel of the sort I've managed to get invested in enough to read through the first volume. Perhaps having read a few more classical and cliche counterparts would have given me some context to view the book in a different light, but I must now play the hand I've been dealt. I don’t deny that,” Yun Ren agreed as he made the first incision, gutting the deer. Hells, even he had thought of coming over and working on the farm. “But is your girl alright with it?”

Hell yeah! Do you know how great it is to be able to eat meat and not get the shits?” She demanded. Deal. Some time in the winter, we’ll head to Pale Moon Lake again, eh?” That, and it would be good to see Biyu again. He hadn’t seen her for just over three months. “Okay, Biyu says you gotta look for the facets that have…” I’ll be second place with pride, then,” Yun Red declared. He had heard of his predecessor, the Summer’s Sky Thunder. The woman who Nezan, the fox who had given him his sword, had obviously loved and cherished. The pain slowly, ever so slowly dulled. He gave everything he had, without reservation. A thought connected them. The preparations for the sleep continued. The other continued to seek them out, and offer tainted energy. It ignored it while prodding at the trees that were supposed to produce sugar. They were supposed to be sweeter than this! the trees upon it were good and evident, so they listened, and prepared with it.

Ri Zu! You blinked!” the old man scolded. Ri Zu grumbled, but the image was recorded without issue, and then they began their climb up from the bottom of the hill. Travel had been on my mind quite a bit recently, ever since Big D, Rizzo, Tigu, Yin, Xiulan, Yun Ren, and Xianghua had gone on their journeys—but now, it was less worry and more… well, I guess pride in what they wanted to do? It was a strange feeling to be sure, but it wasn’t a bad one.

I had future proofed my house when I had built it, or so I thought. It had five bedrooms. It was nice and big.I did not realize how much this genre needed a book like this. Irreverent in a wonderfully earnest way. Whitty and funny and a book that succeeds in making you feel while not taking itself too seriously. Excellent worldbuilding with organic exposition and the best damn rooster any man could ask for. That, and we started finding my kludge solutions, as we started pulling off siding. I had just kind of… trusted in Qi keeping probably a bit too many things together. They would have held with constant maintenance! The Connected One toiled every day, healing its wounds, and disregarding the connection. He gave and gave. He did not force the plants to grow beyond their abilities. He expected nothing, beyond their nourishment later. The story is nice, real nice. I don't have many negative things to say about the story for what it is. And it is what it is, a slice of life, I get that. His brother grimaced. “Let's just say I’m glad Jin is handling all that stuff. It's going to be a pain in the ass when I have to do it by myself. Still, I learned a lot, I think.”

litRPG (which this novel is not, and I have yet to try properly, that's what the KU free trial is for) They were still mustering their strength, reaching out over it's length and breadth to bring in more, when the enemy was cast down, and defeated. The feeling of violence faded, and their power relaxed once more. Well… that was kind of easy, wasn’t it?” Yun Ren asked his brother as they stared at the corpse of the deer. It expected pain. The ripping tearing sensation. Like a beaten dog, it cringed and cowered, trying to escape from the agony that was sure to come. Yet it could not move. All it could do was endure.Yun Ren sighed as his Uncle Nezan acted like a doting grandmother. Though the powerful Spirit Beast had elected to remain in his home, he had bolstered the fragment of himself to contain over half of his Qi, effectively splitting himself fully in two. Where before he was limited to the form of a tiny fox, now he could create a fully corporeal body. Well, Jin had a good idea, you know? To record memories. I thought I’d get one to do the same,” Gou Ren clarified.
