The 32 Principles: Harnessing the Power of Jiu-Jitsu to Succeed in Business, Relationships, and Life No matter how good the videos are, you need a partner to practice jiu-jitsu. Gracie University makes it very easy to connect with other students in your community, since their entire student database made public. When searching for a training partner, you can choose between individual students or “Gracie Garages,” which are unofficial at-home training groups comprised of several Gracie University students. As I’m writing this review, Gracie University currently has 141 Certified Training Centers and 350 Gracie Garages. CONS Very Long Videos Richard Bresler is Rorion Gracie’s first student in the USA. His memoir talks about his time during BJJs first steps in the USA, and his experience training with Rorion and the Gracie family. It also explores the beginning of the UFC, and Bresler’s falling out with Rorion, and subsequent patching up of their relationship. As the gentle art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu is rapidly spreading across the globe, so is the output of instructional videos and learning platforms provided by legends, world champions and other specialists covering all areas of the game. Never before has it been so easy to learn and acquire knowledge from the best, and two of the best are Rener and Ryron Gracie, founders of Gracie University Online, a web platform dedicated to spreading solid fundamentals worldwide with the potential of bringing the great benefits of jiu-jitsu into every home. After digging through Gracie University Online for a couple months, here is my summary of the pros and cons of this platform. PROS Linear Learning This free ebook is invaluable for beginners confused by the numerous positions and principles of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It’s basically a primer for your first months of BJJ, and includes a run-down of the six major positions in BJJ, plus a hierarchy to help you put them into perspective.

If you’re anything like me (and approximately 100% of other jiu jitsu practitioners) you’re always on the lookout for details to improve your game. YouTube is a great place to go, but I also like to do a deep dive through reading, and Jiu Jitsu University by Saulo Ribeiro offers a lot to learn. Helio Gracie and Royler Gracie are showcasing their favorite submissions. Some of the most effective finishing techniques that helped them win a fight many times throughout the years. The perfect book for competitors. Problem Solving Principle: We have proven the effectiveness of every technique against larger opponents. Here are some facts regarding the use of the techniques against much larger adversaries: When you’re not on the mat there are still many ways to improve your jiu jitsu. One way is through a good book. There are plenty of books about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu written by members of the Gracie family and other notable BJJ athletes and teachers. Some of the below books are even free! Browse our list by category:I’ve been in martial arts for 25 years. It has been nearly impossible to train in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu due to my location. This program is genius and groundbreaking. Grand Master Helio Gracie would be proud!” First let me say that this was a great idea! For years, I have admired the great work of your family in the martial arts and with the proliferation of Gracie Jujitsu, within the UFC and without. This is great!!!”

If you've done another martial art before - Jitsu complements numerous other martial arts very well, enhancing your ability to defend yourself. I'm going to reemphasise that this is primarily focused on Gi BJJ (I understand that the author won ADCC twice but again, the sport has changed a lot since then) and also it's the GI BJJ of 2009 (no bermimbolos, worm guard etc). While I don't train in the Gi personally, from reading this I can see the moves discussed are fundamentally sound and and excellent base which you can add the more fancy stuff onto if you would like. A lot of references to grips you can't take without the Gi, so you either have to imagine a different grip or skip the move. It's not a manual that you have to follow step by step. Let's say you are a blue belt and you do want to see what Ribeiro has to say about the blue belt level. He will give you what aspect of your game to work on as well as ideas and bjj concepts to look ahead at.Hi, I can't tell how much I appreaciate you taking the time to make Gracie jiu-Jitsu available to people like me who have no local school to attend. Last year I had the pleasure of attending a seminar in N. Ireland with the legandary Royce Gracie. Half way during the seminar I thought this is the type of Jiu-Jitsu that I want to learn. So I can't tell you how delighted I am that I now can thanks to you! As for the Gracie University. Well words can't express the quality of the teaching and methodology of the programe. It is first class all the way and I am watching my partner make tremendous progress thanks to Gracie combativies. So once again thanks so much for making this fantastic course available to the world, regardless where one lives.” The U.S. Army, the world’s most powerful army, chooses Gracie Jiu-Jitsu as the basis for its military combatives program. Members of U.S. Army Special Operations units charged with finding the most effective combatives systems selected Gracie Jiu-Jitsu based on its demonstrated effectiveness. They asked Rorion to develop an intensive training course that would prepare soldiers for hand-to-hand combat in the least amount of time. After thoroughly analyzing hundreds of fights, Rorion identified 36 techniques that were used more often and with more success than all others. He crafted a short course based on these techniques, and presented it to the Army. These techniques now serve as the foundation for the U.S. Army’s Modern Army Combatives Program, and have been adopted by hundreds of military and law enforcement organizations around the world. Today, through the Gracie Combatives program, they are available to private citizens seeking maximum self-defense skills in the shortest amount of time. 2008- The Global Training Program I just wanted to thank you guys for all the valuable information. It's a dream come true to become an extended member of the Gracie family—a real pleasure.”

Although the art of jiu-jitsu consists of over 600 techniques, studies of real fights conducted by members of the Gracie Family have shown that 36 techniques have been used more often and with greater success than all the other techniques combined. Originally developed for the U.S. Army, Gracie Combatives is the only course that is entirely dedicated to the mastery of these 36 essential techniques. Ryron and Rener Gracie are the eldest grandsons of Grand Master Helio Gracie, the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Their father is Rorion Gracie, one of the world’s foremost experts in self-defense. In 1993, Rorion created the Ultimate Fighting Championship to showcase the supremacy of the family’s self-defense system in a realistic “no holds barred” confrontation against all comers. Rorion’s younger brother, Royce, won 3 of the first 4 UFC tournaments proving that the leverage-based techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu provided the most reliable way to defeat a larger, more athletic opponent. Ryron and Rener were born into this family tradition of testing the art against all challengers. This manual is made for getting White Belts to competent Blue Belts in a short period of time.
