About this deal

I’m all for women not being victims/doormats and if there is one thing that Polly does superbly is create great female characters. Whether they are good or bad you can’t help but like them. Lyla was glorious in all her abysmal glory and I was longing for her comeuppance.

It was interesting reading this second-chance romance novel when I was just thinking about and rewatching Friends, an actual old show with a reunion special. Oh, the nostalgia... There were times when I really felt like I was on set with the characters in the book! I really enjoy Meghan's writing style and look forward to when I can get my hands on another one of her books. This book really has it all. There are plenty of moments that made me laugh (especially with Martin and Peggy Chance, the parents). I don't think I've read an argument scene as strong as the one between the three siblings in this book. Emotional and painful and so honest and real. Thank you so much to DMCPR Media for providing me with a copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review! So much so that Musso is at pains to explain, at some length, in a disclaimer-Author's Note (that comes at the end, rather than the beginning of the novel) that: "The narrator is not the writer".

Smitten Thomas still is in the hold of that lost beauty who, he maintains: "was not your average teenage girl; she was sophisticated, vibrant, witty" -- though others will paint rather a different picture of her. Incidentally, this quote is present in at least another book by Guillaume Musso, La Fille de Brooklyn. She finally bares her soul to Thomas, and that would seem to clear up a lot of the questions -- except instead it points to an even more complicated scenario. There are plenty of other lapses in logic. At one stage, a character crawls out of the sea then makes a call with the phone that has been underwater with him for what must be several minutes. Plus the fact that Gruffudd only travels to Cap d’Antibes for the reunion after receiving an anonymous invitation from someone saying they suspect he’s a murderer – surely staying away would have been more sensible? So, not my very favorite MQ read, but I'm probably in the minority. Still a good read, just not a great one for me.

So Thomas goes into the reunion certain that in a few week's time his life as he knows it will be over. I loved how Phillips included an older sister for Emily. Her sister, Helen, was her biggest supporter, always encouraging and concerned about Emily but never judging her. Emily’s sister, Helen, is my new hero. Who doesn’t love a good revenge drama with manic characters, a creepy, eerie atmosphere and a cleverly arranged plot…….. Considering the TV show in question is depicted as being “groundbreaking”, and “empowering”, both the show within the book and the book itself do a great job at making a man the female protagonist’s main obsession. Now US-based, Thomas decides to attend the 25th reunion of his old high school (which is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary, as well), the elite Lycée International Saint-Exupéry -- "the pinnacle of academic institutions in Alpes-Maritimes". This book was a bit of a meh to me. It didn’t have anything too crazy, again the standard plot based around university friendships spilling over to the professional world. I do have to admit the twist at the end was something I did not see coming which caught me by surprise.

The last quarter of the book just throws a lot at you,in s good way... left me wondering, what COULD be next. This book follows 3 siblings as they converge in their hometown (a small island off the coast of Washington State) to plan a Wedding Anniversary party for their parents. And, bitches, there is DRAAAAMMMMAAAA. This family has slowly drifted apart over the previous 10-ish years and we get a front row seat to the siblings trying to plan this important party while fighting like only siblings can. As the story unfolds we also see each sibling connect with people from their past and fall in love. This book has absolutely zero depth or nuance. It tries, and fails miserably. There is nothing here to hold onto, no characters to root for, just a bunch of two-dimensional people playing even more two-dimensional people on TV. Meghan Quinn really wrote a book where three sets of relationships were developing at the same time and let me say this shit was torture. Why was it torture? Because Quinn was jumping from POV to POV when sexy times were being initiated and it was torturous! The Reunion by Meghan Quinn is a standalone contemporary romance novel that is on the humorous side. The story in The Reunion is told by changing the point of view between multiple characters in the book to give each of their perspectives through multiple relationships forming. I loved this second chance romance so much! The gossip columns between the chapters were so entertaining! The character building was great. You easily resonate with Liv and Ransom! This is a second-chance romance about two actors, Liv and Ransom, who were the stars of this very successful teen show where they played two people in a relationship. For reasons unknown to the reader they went from being best friends to not speaking for 14 years. Now that they have been hired for the reunion episode and possible reboot of this show, they have to face their feelings about each other and about what happened all those years ago. It is futile to deny the complexity of human emotions. Our lives are sometimes inscrutable, often disrupted by conflicting desires. Our lives are fragile, at once precious and insignificant, sometimes bathed in icy waters of loneliness, sometimes in the warm stream of a fountain of youth. Our lives, for the most part, are beyond our control. The slightest thing can turn them upside down. A whispered word, the twinkling of an eye, or a lingering smile can raise us up or cast us into oblivion. And yet, in spite of this uncertainty, we have no choice but to pretend we can control the chaos in the hope that the inclinations of our hearts will find a place in the secret plans of Providence. Ford always finds himself too busy running the company that his parents built and spends most of his time with his assistant. Cooper finds himself distracted with the baker who happens to be an old fling he has never forgotten. And then there’s Palmer, lost in what to do with her life and looking for her future which might include an old crush who is now a sexy doctor.
