About this deal

Edit 5/15: I've changed the rear hatch so it's on a clip instead of hinge and is now one stud shorter to better fit the overall smaller size. This should be the final version unless I find that the wings are unstable after building them in person. I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then. Edit 5/14: After getting the kit in hand and building this MOC in person I slightly updated the interior as it didn't fit a minifig even without a helmet. Now it snugly fits one minifig in the front without a helmet with room behind for a second one, and there's still enough space to throw the pilot's helmet and gun in there. If you plan on adding a minifig to the pilot's seat, add them between steps 23 and 24 as the interior gets built around it.

The Completed Model

Overall this tank is probably the best scaled of the three Lego versions and looks better than the last tiny release. The figures are awesome. Can't wait to display this supporting my 501st Legion set in battle.

What you really want to know from this review is whether the rest of 75342 Republic Fighter Tank is worth a slice of your LEGO budget, and the answer is satisfying straightforward: yes, almost certainly. It’s not the biggest Republic Fighter Tank, nor the prettiest, but it bests both its predecessors in at least one department, and for that it shouldn’t be overlooked – at least if only to see how the LEGO Group has managed to come up with a third completely different way to build this vehicle.

The TX-130 does originate from Star Wars Legends, but joined the modern canon when the vehicle appeared in Star Wars Battlefront II. Choosing to depict the purple 187th Legion Clone Troopers is interesting though, given they have a canonical equivalent. I presume the brown colour was considered unappealing."

What? No! It’s got purple. If we count Mace Windu as an honorary Batman on account of his vambraces, that makes this pretty much the bestest most perfectest Prequel set ever! Give me interesting purple troopers over yet another drab 'canonical' legion any day. It's not like the canon ones are any less made up, they're just made up by a different person. None of this is real, after all." Wooow. Like others have said, the body looks really plain. Figs are nice tho. Also, de-exclusivifying (it’s a word (no it’s not)) the mace windu from the gunship. Hm. Don’t see them doing that with og trilogy figs in d2c sets." Confusing is the word to summarise 75342 Republic Fighter Tank. The minifigure selection is superb, particularly for the exclusive Mace Windu and his colourful Clone Troopers. Selecting these non-canonical Clone Troopers, among numerous potentially more prominent options, is surprising though. Even so, I do love the purple!

Honestly the whining about the figures in the review and ending up calling the set 'confusing' and 'muddled' without really showing that, are detracting. You wanted different figures, we get it, leave it alone." I don’t get the argument that the 187th legion was the right choice because they’re unique and different. 21st and 327th troopers have never been made before, and are just as unique, in addition to being a lot more desirable of options. Forma una alianza con Mace Windu y sus soldados clon de élite de la Legión 187 para luchar contra los droides de combate. Entra en acción con el asombroso Tanque de combate de la República. Dirige el ataque desde el puesto de observación con el comandante clon y dispara los cañones automáticos. Usa la Fuerza para ayudar a Mace Windu a derribar a esos droides de combate con su espada láser morada y la victoria será tuya. The canon question is funny to me as a die hard Legends fan, since Legends sets or figures appear once in a blue moon. In addition to the exciting features and detailed design, this set introduces the 187th Legion Clone Trooper for the first time in LEGO history. This exclusive minifigure adds a unique element to the collection and will surely delight fans and collectors alike. The opportunity to lead their mini-dolls into battle and beyond will ignite the imagination of young space troopers.
