Veteran actor Roger Allam brings an impressive range and energy to Archer's historical novel. The tale finds its inspiration in the real-life mystery surrounding adventurer George Mallory, Continue reading » of loopholes and improbable ideas. One person is shown to impersonate another in every single detail. No suspicions are aroused. What I liked most is the pace at which the story runs. Probably that is why it is still readable though the plot and the climax are more or less on par (or below!) expectation from a master story teller like Jeffrey Archer.

Sir Nicholas slowly teaches Danny to read and to write. Their friendship grows closer, and Danny decides to dress like his friend in the hope that it will help his upcoming appeal. Danny begins to gather evidence for his appeal with the help of a young lawyer, Alex Redmayne, but unable to present the new evidence, Danny's appeal is denied, and he must serve his complete sentence in Belmarsh prison. The solicitor he selected, a Mr Makepeace, had demanded five thousand pounds up front, even before he took the top off his fountain pen, and then another five once he'd briefed Alex Redmayne, the barrister who would represent him in Court. Danny couldn't understand why he needed two lawyers to do the same job.” Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 2020-06-16 04:03:37 Boxid IA1814602 Camera USB PTP Class Camera Collection_set printdisabled External-identifier But have you got enough readies?" demanded Bernie. "'Cause basement flats don't come cheap, even in the East End." However, Spencer Craig, Lawrence Davenport, Gerald Payne, and Toby Mortimer all underestimate Danny's determination to seek revenge, and Beth's relentless quest to pursue justice, which ends up with all four fighting for their lives.

My lord, if a man cannot express his honestly held views in the Central Criminal Court, perhaps you can advise me where else he is free to state that which he believes to be the truth?” (c) Then, when Archer made reference to that story, I was annoyed even more as it's one of my favourite stories. It is a great book with absolutely no place for errors. A plot that makes you go 'ooh!' and 'aah!' A must read book for those who prefer crime-mystery novels and for the people out there who think it's boring to read about the court proceedings, trust me this book will make you want to learn the law.

As a friend very rightly put it… ’A Prisoner of Birth’ has all the makings of a Bollywood Masala Movie. Even if you've never read Archer before, this should be an enjoyable read. Lots of legal twists (the best one I did see coming) and then I do like books that focus on revenge, sweet revenge. Truly beatiful language, empowering scenery and ending. I especially loved that the plot was very neat, overly so - are there really that many lookalikes in reality, who cares? I loved this book and it covers evrything.
