Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows. The characters were very well-developed. I absolutely loved Grace's sister, Millie. She stole my heart. Although I questioned some of Grace's decisions, it felt like one of those situations where you couldn't possibly know how you would react unless it was happening to you. A hair-raising debut, both unsettling and addictive...A chilling thriller that will keep you reading long into the night.” —Mary Kubica, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Good Girl In the present, Amelie and her wealthy husband Ned have been kidnapped and held for ransom. Admittedly, I don’t enjoy captivity stories. It really pains me to have to write yet another (The Dilemma) less than raving review of one of Paris' books. I really enjoyed this author's debut, and enjoyed her follow-up, The Breakdown, even more so, but then something happened and her subsequent releases have left a lot to be desired.

I have been wanting to read Behind Closed Doors for quite some time. When it was available on NetGalley I requested it right away but unfortunately was denied. I think that just made me want it more! Though Paris is undoubtedly a talented author who has put out thrillers I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed, this one left me wondering if I actually ENJOYED The Dilemma by comparison. it's the literary parallel of the lifetime movie. in which assessment there is no pejorative value judgment implied - it is a marriage thriller, after all. If you can dig deep and find it in you to curb your need for concrete common sense and logic for the sake of some truly fun fiction, then you, my friend, are the perfect prospect for Behind Closed Doors. Life is perfect for Amelie...right? Far from it!! In the present, we find out that she's in fact being held prisoner by someone. In a tiny, dank, dark room by herself, in complete isolation being fed only two meals daily by a masked man. Who could she possibly have upset enough to deserve being held in captivity, as a prisoner for days, weeks, and possibly even months??

Need Help?

However, the second half of the book won me over, as the pace increases significantly due to the shorter chapters, and the answers I needed were discovered. Amelie is kidnapped with her husband and kept a prisoner in a dark room with no idea why or who is behind it. The short chapters and alternating timeline kept the pace of this novel clipping along and the narrator of the audiobook was great. I also liked the spunk and bravery displayed by Amelie as the story progressed. Behind Closed Doors (1958 TV series), a 1958–1959 American spy docudrama TV series starring Bruce Gordon

It all started with the loss of her parents: her mother at a young age, and Papa more recently, to a terrible illness. After moving from Paris to London, Amelie tries to forge ahead with her adult life and process her grief...until she happens to meet a woman named Carolyn (quite randomly) who THEN gets her somehow entangled with playboy billionaire Ned Hawthorne, whose father has a well-known foundation. When Ned presents her with an interesting proposition that will end in marriage, it seems like all of Amelie's dreams are coming true at once and a new and exciting life is just around the corner...so why now does her imprisonment seem like her ONLY hope for escape? And let me just say that little Millie, she's brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Millie has it figured out and now all Grace has to do is find a way to execute the plan. But in Grace's world there is nothing easy to execute. Prisoners in a jail have it easier than Grace! I couldn’t wrap my mind around how Grace was going to get herself out of the situation she was trapped in. While I thought there were a few opportunities that presented themselves, I could understand her trepidation and the need to protect her younger sister. Millie turned out to be one of my favorite things about the story. Was it just me or did she have way more guts than Grace? Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. Or how she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn't work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows. After her father’s death, Amelie tries to start over in France. There she makes a few friends who get her set up including the handsome and wealthy Ned Hawthorne. After a shotgun wedding, broken promise, a murder or two and a car ride later, Amelie wakes up in total darkness. Her world begins to crumble around her as she realizes that she has been kidnapped. Who has done this to her and why?Domestic thriller novel Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris will be adapted into a film with a script by Melissa London Hilfers.

Behind Closed Doors: The gripping, shocking, million-copy and

The first half of this book was super compelling, but the rest went on longer than it probably needed to. It felt like some parts were spoon-fed to the reader. Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods. It was on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, and a woman was sitting inside—the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm, and she probably would have been hurt herself if she’d stopped. Not only that, her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home.

What to Read Next

As Alice is getting to know her neighbours, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before. As I got further in, however, the story started to get a little outlandish, and disbelief set in. You all know I'm not good at suspending disbelief, lol, and well, that was that. Then when I got to the end. Waah waah. I also wonder if the author has ever flown abroad in her life? She certainly doesn't seem to know how an airport works. And as for mentioning a Bangkok hotel 'with its own private beach', well that just creased me up. I've been travelling to Bangkok for twenty years and if there is a beach there, neither myself nor the locals know of its whereabouts!! Hilarious! : D
