About this deal

Thermal testers work on heat. Their advantage is simplicity, touch the probe on the stone, see the reading, no skill and no special training is required. Disadvantages: they only work at room temperature (typically between 19 and 26 degrees C); they only test for a few stones and (as you see from the picture below) many of the readings overlap. Yes, that is what is so good about this one, it can test any mounted stones (other models either don't test mounted stones at all, or are limited to small rings).

Gives correct results about 95% of the time (6% false positive rate, 4.5% false negative rate) providing the colour is 'clear' (colour D to J) and the size is at least 0.02ct and the cut isn't shallow. For accurate and reliable gemstone testing, the Presidium testers are an essential tool for the workshop. Presidium offer a range of electronic and dial gauges, as well as digital testers, that use advanced technology to help identify a range of stones. Ideal for use with both loose and mounted stones, Presidium testers can help you distinguish diamonds from other stones and convert gemstone dimensions to estimated carat weights. Browse the range and find the right tool for your workshop today The Presidium ARI is an essential tool for the experienced jeweller and professional diamond dealer, it is for testing known diamonds.

A diamond tester is a staple household tool every industry user needs. While diamond testers were first available around 20 years ago, technological advancements and constant enhancements make today's diamond testing machines more reliable and accurate. To to see all the advantages and disadvantages of a "Digital Refractometer (reflectivity meter)" scroll down slightly. The only difference is that this (Duo Presidium) displays a two-digit number you must look up on the Presidium chart whereas the "Digital Refractometer (reflectivity meter)" below displays the reading as 'refractive index', a standard system that gemmologists understand (see any text book or search the internet). Reflectivity / Refractive Index testers are optical not thermal (so they work at any temperature), they help identify many dozens of stones. We have 11 locations and have been in business for 35 years. This Gemlogis business diamond tester is hands-down the best diamond tester we have ever used. It is unmatched in its ability to reliably identify CZ’s, moissanite, and lab grown diamonds.

Additional gems besides diamonds have high conductivity (such as moissanite) but a diamond tester can separate a diamond from a cubic zirconia. The latest diamond testing devices combine heat and electricity testing so they’re the most accurate. Type IIa diamond is a very rare type of natural diamond that will show up as 'synthetic' on this tester. So if the tester shows, "CVD / HPHT / Type IIa Diamond" there is a good chance it's synthetic but this is not guaranteed.it's not as versatile as an optical refractometer, you only get one reading for each stone (technical: you can't measure the birefringence). This means that if you want to distinguish diamond simulants you need to compare actual stones (get a sample set of stones: YAG, GGG, synthetic sapphire, synthetic spinel, zircon, strontium titanate and cubic zirconia) Get a friend or colleague to use the tester. Get two or three friends or colleagues to use the tester. As each one does this, either leave the room or keep your mouth firmly shut, don't give them any clues, let them work it out for themselves. Very often if it works when they use it, see what it is that they are doing different.

You might be curious how diamond testers work. It tests the stone for its thermal and/or electrical conductivity. Thermal conductivity diamond testers measure the amount and speed that heat travels through the stone. Electric conductivity testers measure the amount and speed that electricity travels through the gemstone. There are diamond testing devices for detecting loose or mounted stones, like the Gemlogis VISTA and VISTA PRO. The test-tip (probe) on the tester must be clean, especially if it hasn't been used for some time. Clean it by rubbing it (at right angles) on in a circular motion on an ordinary piece of paper. This is stated in the instruction manuals of most models, along with a diagram. On a diamond-only tester, the tester will become less sensitive if the tip is dirty, i.e. you'll have to turn the LED Lights (sensitivity) up higher than usual. With a multi-tester, both diamonds and Moissanite will sometimes read, "Other stone", though not necessarily on every test, which will give the impression the tester is 'not consistent' or 'erratic' or "not reading diamond on known diamonds". Cleaning the tip fixes these problems.

NO REACTION, if it's low thermal thermal conductivity (those that never give a reading on a standard diamond tester) - it could be anything, but it's not diamond De Beers Institute of Diamonds is proud to offer ground-breaking, low-cost testing services designed to strengthen confidence in diamonds. Opt for the latest model: technology is constantly changing everywhere, and that’s the same for diamond testing detectors as well. The latest models combine heat and electricity testing for the greatest accuracy. not ideal for buying at outdoor venues when it's cold, the tester must be used at room temperature. Relatively cold" stones give a high (and for large diamonds, lightning-fast) reaction on the LED segments.

You can also see, from the principle that you can accidentally make a circuit and get a MOISSANITE reading: by touching the setting of the jewellery, OR by placing the probe tip very very close to the setting so that the electricity 'jumps' - which is why you can't test very tiny stones (e.g. about 1 point). A layer of grease (and some proprietary jewellery cleaners) is likelty to be electrically conductive, so that diamonds will register as MOISSANITE - the stone must be clean, wipe it carefully with a very clean cloth (or clean it with an alcohol). MULTI TESTERSDiamonds read DIAMOND based on thermal conductivity, all the rules and conditions listed above apply.
