Made with Espadin agave, the pechuga mezcal is distilled a third time with a turkey breast suspended in the still, along with seasonal fruit and spices. It is an homage to Oaxacan tradition – where pechuga (meaning turkey breast) mezcal is drunk at special occasions, such as weddings and quinceaneros. The turkey breast isn’t just for festive flair, however – it also adds flavour and some viscosity to the mezcal. Cranston and Paul, best known for playing Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in AMC series Breaking Bad, launched their mezcal brand Dos Hombres in 2019. Dos Hombres Mezcal is a brilliant blend of hand-selected Espadin agave from Oxaca. The mashed agave is fermented for 7-10 days in mountain water. It is then distilled in copper stills to create this delicate mezcal. The pair, who starred in the acclaimed AMC show Breaking Bad, entered the agave spirits category in 2019 with Dos Hombres Mezcal, which uses spirit from mezcal producers in San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca.The other difference is that mezcal must be 100% agave, whereas tequila only needs to be 50% agave – the rest can be made up with cheaper spirits. The fermentation happens naturally in wooden vats, although stone, clay or animal skin can also be used.
