About this deal

Bought as a gift, but have this whisky at home. One of my absolute favourites and a noticable step up from the 12 year old. Staff extremely courteous to deal with and delivery exactly as stated. This is good whisky, but I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s better than the 12 or the 15. The dominant European oak/ex-oloroso sherry cask influence just makes it that much more different from the 12 and 15.

Glenmorangie and Glenlivet are two of the most iconic whisky producers in the world, with a long history of producing high-quality spirits. Both distilleries have become synonymous with quality, craftsmanship and innovation over the years. The Glenmorangie 10 year old whisky is a unique and exceptional choice for those looking for an intense, yet complex flavour profile. Its maturation process involves first-and-second-fill American white oak casks which adds to its complexity, resulting in a luxuriously soft mouthfeel, clean finish, and subtle fruity notes that are incredibly smooth. However Systemdown assured me that Nadurra was a good little whisky and he proved me correct with his sample of Nadurra and so when I saw the 18 year old Glenlivet I was a little intrigued. The Palate brings warming spices, This is lovely and smooth. Again, green apples, sultanas, some sherry, honey and winter spices.NOSE: very impressive, rich, elegant, deep, with notes of apple, citrus fruits, vanilla, hints of perfume and shade of smoked young oak, in a very deep nose - subtle tones of cheese mold. PALATE: complex, medium balanced, dry, pretty much alcoholicity as for 18 YO single malt, citrus, hint of honey and fruits in lights of caramel. FINISH: long enough, warming, with notes of orange peel, vanilla, fresh oak and hints of apple and peach traces at the very end. Palate: Aromas of juicy nectarines drenched in yoghurt, succulent peaches bathed in cream and a hint of butterscotch come together to create an irresistibly creamy tropical experience on the palate. Every sip is sweetened with notes of acacia honey for a truly indulgent taste sensation.

The ex-sherry cask aged components blended here must be very minimal. I’m more inclined to think that a small portion of ex-sherry cask-matured Glenlivet was blended in this expression, rather than it being a finish. The distillery DNA and American oak flavors are more noticeable from start to end, while he ex-sherry notes like the dates, cherries and milk chocolate are sparingly present on the nose and finish. Glenlivet 18 year old whisky has been aged in a combination of American ex-bourbon cask and European ex-sherry cask made from American and European oak which impart additional complexity to the whisky. A smaller amount of Glenlivet is also placed in American-made ex-Sherry casks for extra flavour before being finished in new French Limousine oak from Dordogne for its final maturation stage. This careful aging process ensures that Glenlivet 18 year old whisky has achieved its perfect balance after spending at least 18 years in oak barrels before it is bottled and shipped to its final destination. To develop the flavour and colour of Glenfiddich 18, the new make spirit is matured in two cask types. From America, ex-bourbon barrels are rebuilt into hogshead casks. With their charred oak staves, they impart complex notes of dried fruit, citrus peel and sweet dates. Due to their charred interior surfaces, the new make develops its decadent dark golden colour. Since this is one of the most easy-to-find single malts in the world, I feel like I’m compelled to compare the price of this to other unpeated single malts of the same price range that can serve as better alternatives. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. The Glenmorangie 10 whisky is a complex and delightful dram, with a nose of tart lemon, juicy nectarine, crisp apple, and subtle spice. The addition of first-and-second-fill American white oak casks gives Glenmorangie 10 its unique character. The whisky has a luxuriously soft mouthfeel that is clean and refreshing, finishing with a subtly sweet flavour that is incredibly smooth. Glenmorangie 10 is bottled at 80 proof / 40%ABV for an intense flavour experience. This whisky has been reviewed very well, so I figured I owed it to The Glenlivet to try it, and give it a fair shake. This malt is a pretty light colored dram, coming in about pale straw. This expression is bottled at 43% ABV. Personally, I have no preference when it comes to which "camp" I visit, (blends vs single malt) I like what I like. And "I like" a few different whiskys - (all scotch). Some I favour exhibit considerable peat and/or smoke (Lagavulin 16 comes to mind)- and yet others I fancy tend to yield a more fruity experience, (such as this Glenlivet 18).

We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Nose: Quite big and well-rounded. There are notes of chewy sultanas and Sherried peels, barley sugars and toasty cereals with petals and apple blossom. A touch of fudge and gentle wisps of smoke. After this : Honey, Sour green apple, some caramel. Bitter finish, very much the bitterness of a tonic. Aside from being different, I find that it isn’t as complex as the 12 and 15. The flavors are just more pleasant, thus easier to enjoy. After the cask flavors run out, though, there’s a sudden stop. If you were to ask me my ranking of the three, I’d say 15 > 18 > 12. It’s delicious. Sweet caramel and honey up front then some malt, pears, figs vanilla and cherries all underpinned by sherry. The sherry is subtle though and not overbearing (I’m not a big fan of too much sherry).
