One Good Thing is an uplifting, engaging tale that takes you to the Yorkshire Dales and into the lives of many, including Liv Brooks, who is still trying to come to grips with her cheating ex, relocation to a cottage in need of TLC, and adoption of a loyal, four-legged friend named Harry; Valentine, an elderly man struggling with the slow decline of the woman he’s loved for sixty years; Maya, a teenager discontent with almost everything in her life; and Stanley, a young boy who prefers routine and the safety of his own home.

Vôbec neviem, prečo som chcela skúsiť čítať od autorky niečo ďalšie. Neprišlo mi to nevyhnutné. No som strašne rada, že som sa k tejto dostala. Po jej priemerných knihách, hoci zaujímavým nápadom totiž napísala niečo, čo je v podstate jednoduché a predsa veľmi bohaté. Make no mistake: Someone Great isn’t earth-shattering cinema. It’s not even the best rom-com to come out of the past couple of years. But it is a soothing, easy film to return to when pandemic life feels a little too daunting. Auch der Schreibstil von Alexandra Potter hat mir gut gefallen, denn er ist flüssig, stellenweise lustig, emotzional und dadurch, dass auch die anderen Charaktere ihre eigenen Kapitel haben, abwechslungsreich. So lernt mal viele der Charaktere besser kennen, was superist, denn irgendwie gehören sie alle zusammen. Mir hat es gefallen, dass es eine Weile gedauert hat, bis die Charaktere einander vertraut haben und auch, wie sie miteinander umgegangen sind - das hat die Autorin wirklich toll beschrieben. Nur an einer Stelle am Ende ging es mir leider etwas zu schnell - da ging es aber anderen Lesenden wieder ganz anders.Neviem, čím to je, ale autorka (zasa raz) aj bez rozsiahlych popisov prostredia a prírody vie vierohodne vtiahnuť a nadchnúť čitateľa pre lokalitu tak, že mám chuť okamžite kúpiť letenku a odcestovať na tie miesta, aby som mohla byť ich súčasťou. Each of the characters Liv meets along the way have all lost something or someone in their life and the story is of a coming together of community, of helping each other along lonely paths, that really needn’t be lonely if only people can accept others’ offers of help. First, advertising dollars go up and down with the economy. We often only know a few months out what our advertising revenue will be, which makes it hard to plan ahead. The story revolves around Liv, a middle-aged divorcée, who abandons her home and teaching career in London, and heads off to the Yorkshire Dales to reinvent herself. Liv is bruised, lonely and adrift, and struggling to adjust to her new circumstances, when she adopts aging rescue dog, Harry. And it’s Harry that turns out to be her ‘one good thing’.

One Good Thing is a story of grief, moving on, getting out of your comfort zone,navigating different relationships, family dynamics and accepting help from others. Swap that not-so-naked bar out for One Good Thing and help us make the planet a cleaner, greener (and not to mention tastier!) place to be. 😝 But Liv soon discovers she isn’t the only one in need of a new beginning. On their daily walks around the village, they meet Valentine, an old man who suffers from loneliness who sits by the window and Stanley, a little boy who is scared of everyone, hides behind the garden gate and Maya, a teenager who is angry at everyone and everything. But slowly things start to change…Most news outlets make their money through advertising or subscriptions. But when it comes to what we’re trying to do at Vox, there are a couple reasons that we can't rely only on ads and subscriptions to keep the lights on. This was a gifted book in exchange for my honest review. With gifted books, I always feel such a pressure to ‘like’ them, because if I don’t, I feel ungrateful. There was none of that with this book. I genuinely loved it, I didn’t want to stop reading, but I also didn’t want to read it too fast because I didn’t want it to end! If I could rate it higher than five stars I honestly would. It was such a feel good book, about starting again, and I just honestly loved it so much.
