So the overall idea for the story wasn't terrible but I think the way it is told doesn't give it a lot of feeling. I can't quite put my finger on it. This alpha immediately feels like he needs to reject her because she's not strong enough. That makes no sense for so many reasons but a big one is that finding your mate is supposed to be some big gift from their goddess so why would you throw it away with hardly a thought. But anyway, the she wolf he has decided to choose hates Emma and constantly gives her shit but pretends to be sweet in front of others. Eventually she takes her hatred for Emma too far. Fifteen years ago, Jiang Ning was thrown out from one of the country’s wealthiest families, roaming the streets after his mother passed away from an illness. At his lowest point, he met a kind girl, Lin Yuzhen, who gave him a sweet. She told him that as long as he ate this sweet, his life would get sweeter and sweeter. And to think the ghost bird book I am reading is taking me FOREVER to get through, and they are about the same size. Ish.

Gets to know things about her he didn't know before, like she has a job at the hospital and she trains with his soldiers. How did he decide she's weak when he knew nothing about her? We have to train every day, but tomorrow I get a day off because it is my birthday and my first shift. It is a special occasion. The first shift is important because you get to meet your wolf, and your mate. The storyline is fairly typical and is ok but the main character is self deprecating, wallows in self pity and quite honestly annoyed me, the male characters are short sighted and stupid. The best part of Emma is how she was confident and strong. We could relate to her, her wise decisions, the way she wouldn’t let anything get to her feelings, and even when it did her strong persona to never show her weakness in front of the people who didn’t care. I really enjoyed how easy the book was to read, the characters could have been developed more (pictorally). Both Logan and Andrew are being so overprotective over her that it‘s already annoying. The way her brother acts with her is kind of disturbing, almost sounds like incest.

It doesn't seem to be based on actually wanting a relationship with her, just wanting her strength. I guess we have to read the second book to see if he can show some real emotion.
