About this deal

Note: Dell U3821DW supports display over USB Type-C port with Alternate mode DP 1.4. Ensure that the USB Type-C on your PC supports Alternate mode DP 1.2 or above. Just look at the figures. The LG 38UC99-W and Dell Ultrasharp U3818DW are virtually identical in maximum brightness, contrast ratio, color accuracy, color gamut, and gamma curve. The HP Z38c is close enough for government work, except for its color accuracy. In other words, they’re all quite similar according to every test metric we consider important. This array is what we’d expect from a high-end monitor, and slightly better than LG’s display, which has fewer USB options.

Finally, you can also view content from two different PC sources with PBP (Picture-by-Picture) and PIP (Picture-in-Picture) and use the KVM (Keyboard, Video, and Mouse) feature to control both PCs with a single keyboard and mouse. A pair of 9-watt speakers are hidden in the U3818DW’s frame. The screen’s size means there is more room than normal, and that benefits the monitor’s sound quality. We found quality to be clear throughout most of the monitor’s range of volume. Remember, though; there’s no subwoofer. You’ll need external speakersto enjoy movies or throw a dance party on your lunch break. Screen pre-calibration The built-in KVM switch allows you to control up to 2 computers from a keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor. Productivity and external monitors go hand-in-hand. This is especially true for the new wave of curved monitors, which are more immersive, comfortable, and easy on the eyes for day-to-day office or home use. But while these monitors are common for gaming, it’s rare to see them in the productivity space, with features needed for the office or the home. However, apart from being expensive, the Dell U3821DW doesn’t present the same level of color accuracy out of the box compared to other models in the same class. Products like the Dell U2720Q and even the older U3818DW showed better imaging performance when measured with a colorimeter. It’s an excellent productivity monitor, but we can only recommend it for editors and creators if they have access to a colorimeter.Basically, there’s a ton of space here, and it’s well suited to those who need such expansive spaces for multitasking workflows. Dell launched a new portable monitor aimed at mobile road warriors who need a larger screen while traveling. The Dell 14 Portable Monitor is a 14-inch FHD display that connects to your laptop or tablet with just a USB-C cable, allowing you to augment your display so you can stay productive and collaborate when you're away from your desk. Next up, the monitor is also TÜV Rheinland certified and features Dell’s Comfort View certification. This is a software-enabled solution that reduces harmful blue light emissions for optimized eye comfort even over extended viewing sessions Additional monitor information like the model number, firmware version and Service Tag can be accessed from the monitor's OSD (On-Screen Display).

The speakers are fine on the Dell UltraSharp 38. They’re by no means its strong point, but people aren’t buying this for its speakers. Most users will already have speakers connected to their computers, so it’s unlikely that they will ever get used. Still, they’re fine, thin-sounding as expected, and not very good for editing video/sound. But in a pinch for YouTube and Podcasts, perfectly fine. HP’s Z38c, meanwhile, has both the LG and Dell beat, with an even wider range of adjustments and a more modern look. The Dell and HP models are similar in most respects, but HP has the edge. Downward-firing ports Where you put your monitor is almost as important as what model you buy. The monitor should be directly in front of you, at an arm’s length away (between 20-40 inches from your eyes). The top edge of the screen at eye level when you are sitting comfortably. You may need to adjust your chair height or the height of the monitor to achieve this. Ultrawide, not 4K, monitors have become the next big thing in PC displays. Our lineup of the best ultrawide monitors can attest to the allure of these beasts. Furthermore, while a 4K monitor requires proper high-resolution content to really show off, ultrawides look great at a variety of pixel counts. And, as our Dell Ultrasharp U3818DW monitor review will explore, they’re as suited for work as they are for play.Use the buttons at the rear of the monitor to access the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu of the monitor. To access the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, press Button 5 ( Figure 1) at the rear of the monitor.
