About this deal

He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work. If I was Jordan...okay Let's pretend I am Jordan so I would be wishing he was 10 years younger or even my age but I am not saying this because his age bothers me, no it absolutely doesn’t!!!

Final thoughts....this book was too long, it dragged, I didn't connect with either of the characters, and I probably wont remember this book in a few days. I was bored reading this and only finished it because of the many people who loved it. I was expecting Birthday girl to be heavy in the feels but it turned out as just another book I will forget about it in a week. I didn't like the power imbalance here. Jordan was staying rent free in Pike's house. It made me feel uncomfortable, and a bit like he took advantage of her. He was barely there when she needed him, always partying and cheating. always makes her do all the chores in the house because he has a hangover or is out partying. Jordan is a heroine that's impossible not to like. Mature beyond her years due to the way she grew up, this is not your typical 19 year old. With a mother that left years ago and a deadbeat trailer trash father, it's been her and her older sister fending for themselves. With an adorable adoration of all things 80s, Jordan was easy to connect with. While her sister has no problem supporting herself and young child by being a stripper, Jordan wants more. Moving in with her boyfriend's father rent free will allow her to save up enough to put herself on her feet and to get that more that she craves. But it also brings a whole lot more complications in the form of an interaction to her boyfriend's young father that seems to only intensify over time. Cole was a douche the whole story until the end when he suddenly had an abrupt change of heart that I didn’t see coming. It felt bizarre. When had he grown up? I guess the sex scenes were hot, except for the loofah scene! I mean I don't know what loofah's you use in the states, but here they are really rough and that shit would chafe! Ouch! Oh and the desk corner scene?!! WTAF?!

At some point I felt it was dragging out as I had a feeling I read this typical story line before, (good girl from trashy caravan park, drunk father and stepmother, striptease job offers, slutty sister and so on). You’ve always watched me, haven’t you? Always wanted to have your fun with me.” I falter, knowing what she says is true. I’ve wanted her since the first time I saw her. “It’s okay,” she whispers. “I always knew, and I always liked it. Keep watching me, Mr. Lawson.” The advice, the words of wisdom were so precious. He could be your friend yet he can also be the protective figure, someone you can rely on eyes closed. This was supposed to be a buddy read with my friend, Deidra, but the book was annoying me-- and not in a "so bad it's fun" way, but in an "OMG NOT THIS SHIT AGAIN" sort of way, so I ended up jumping ship at 12% because I'm a bad friend. But life's too short to read bad books.

The heroine, Jordan (19), loves anything about the 80s. She’s always had an old soul because she is wise beyond her years and she had to grow up pretty early because of her lifestyle when she was young. She’s smart, understanding, and super mature. And I like her but to be honest, she’s not my personal favorite. I’m pretty biased though because I love sarcastic and witty heroines that makes me laugh out loud. Just because that is my personal preference, does not mean that Jordan is a horrible heroine. She’s actually pretty great and I admire her resilience, her perseverance, and her apparent independence. I love the way the author dealt with this. It’s a sensitive issue and I felt that it was approached and told in a respectful way. Pike Lawson, a cold middle aged man, a man whose has a hard time trying to mend the broken pieces of him and his son's relationship. Life is not like when he was young, anymore. He is ready to settle down. Get married and have kids even though he feel too old for those things now...He has given up on dreams and is now getting ready for life of solitude...until her. The quirky little girl with the addiction for everything that is pink and belonged to 80s. His little temptress who is supposedly his estranged son's girlfriend. But the attraction between them is hard to ignore. Day by day his obsession for this girl grows as she spend most of the time with him instead of her boyfriend, his son. Suddenly an opportunity to get near to drops on to his lap. His asshole of a son, cheats on her, finally he has his chance to be with her. I love both Pike and Jordan's thought process, both of them are similar in so many ways and I think that is the foremost reason why they molded together so perfectly.
