Perfect for engaging children in discussion about emotions, The Color Monster relates each emotion to a colour. A kind little girl helps a friendly monster to identify and sort his mixed up emotions.

A former stand-up star himself, Meyer has helped the trajectory of her career take off since he began managing her… Since he became her closest and most treasured friend, in the process. I like that "rainstorms always precede something amazing" and that "jumping in puddles is better than any fancy party." I think that love is so cool thousands of people write about it every day. Millions, even. And I love that this book got published, and that I got to read it, and that it can always bring me comfort when I need it most. Playful illustrations and lyrical text capture the little girl’s feelings throughout the day…angry, silly, grumpy, and excited. This story expertly shows a relatable kid day filled with all sorts of emotions, or moods. This book talks about times when things are scary and times when those same things are not—“ Sometimes I’m scared of dogs // I’m not scared when they give me kisses.” Parr shows how it’s okay to feel scared as well as shifting the perspective to see things in a new way.The When I’m Feeling series includes books exploring a range of emotions – angry, jealous, kind, scared, lonely and loved, and they are one of my favourite resources for introducing children to emotions and strategies for expressing our feelings in ways that are appropriate and acceptable to ourselves and others. This is one of the best, most healthy emotional intelligence children’s books I’ve ever read about feeling your feelings — not stuffing nor trying to get rid of them, just feel them. Jim Panzee (chimpanzee, get it?) wakes up and nothing seems right. His jungle friends like Norman suggest that he might be grumpy. Yet Jim insists he’s NOT grumpy. As Jim stomps around, bunching his eyebrows, not swinging, he yells at the other animals that he is NOT grumpy. Later that day, Jim sits with Norman. “ For now I need to be grumpy,” he explains finally. To which Norman responds, “ It’s a wonderful day to be grumpy.” The character development was topnotch and I immediately felt connected to not only Farley and Meyer, but also the incredibly charming supporting characters like Meyer’s hearing impaired daughter Hazel. Her friendship with Farley almost steals the show. I really enjoyed the way Dewitt develops their relationship independent of Farley and Meyer’s. Seriously tho how that meet cute comes full circle and the way TD brings it all together under the same ☂️ (ella ella – sorry my brain…I just 🙈 sometimes) is such lovely storytelling.

Farley is a 25-year-old, up-and-coming comedian who is finally about to catch her big break. She's fun, loud, endearing, and absolutely hilarious, and at no point did I find her to be obnoxious or annoying. Truly, the perfect comedic heroine. There's also a lot going on underneath her sunny exterior. Throughout the story, you learn she struggles with self-doubt, self-acceptance, and anxiety, but she regularly sees a therapist. I just found her to be so relatable. Divided into happiness, fear, anger, and sadness, this detailed book of feelings explores these four main emotions, the reasons why we feel them, and the science behind each one. The fabulous illustrations and simple rhyming couplets bring any discussion about emotions with young children to life. Helping children learn to identify emotions, the situations that spark these feelings and effective coping skills provides them with a strong emotional foundation, which in turn can lead to increased self confidence and sense of self esteem. This is so much more than a silly rom-com. Yes, there are plenty of rom-com elements like the grumpy/sunshine trope and fake dating romance, but there's so much depth to this story. Specifically when it comes to dealing with Farley's mental health and Meyer discovering himself.

One of the most challenging aspects of childhood is feeling strong emotions, and learning about how best to understand and manage those emotions.

The romance is beautiful with so much tension! I'm not a huge fan of friends to lovers, but this one really was perfect. I love that they were only friends for a few years and decided (on their own) to keep things professional. Because during that time, these two were able to develop a deep love and respect for one another. Teachers, learn more about social-emotional learning in the classroom. Best Picture Books for Kids About Emotions & Feelings Try to walk in someone's shoes to see how they might feel. For though you cannot see them, feelings are still strong and real”.

Narrated by Jenny Mei’s friend, we learn that Jenny Mei is sad, but she doesn’t always show it. Sometimes she smiles and sometimes she rips things and sometimes she is quiet. And it’s ok. Her friend is always there for “ fun and not-fun and everything in between.” This wonderfully shows the importance of accepting a friend’s feelings and behaviors without judgment or trying to fix things. This is a GREAT read for kids who experience very big feelings. Though he tries hard to cope by stuffing down his feelings, with a little help and artistic inspiration, this boy realises that feelings are something to be celebrated.

So, I've had this book on my TBR for a while, and honestly I don't even know if I ever knew what it was about or if it was the cover that drew me in. Needless to say, I went in blind and ehh A new book series developed in tandem with teachers and therapists to help children cope with a range of emotions and teach them that they indeed hold the power to choose their actions and reactions.

Siblings Sam and Kate know what makes them happy, but they can’t be happy all the time! Follow them (with their parents and dog, Fuzzy Bean) on a journey through emotions and the everyday situations that can impact upon the way we feel. A wonderful story for offering children a descriptive vocabulary of feelings and emotions, and for sparking further conversation of what feelings can feel like. Both Farley and Meyer rely on each other so much for love, comfort, and support, and their friendship is truly something beautiful. But I also appreciated that they also have moments of growth on their own. FF follows Farley (Fee) an up and coming comedienne, to take the next step in her career a suggestion is made that she might “fake date” her manager Meyer who had his own comedic success at an earlier age but leans more into writing now as he balances working with being a single dad to his deaf daughter Hazel (totes book MVP btw she is legit the best!) & wouldn’t you know it but the MCs have lowkey been pining/in love with each other for a while but are each scared of tipping the precarious relationships they have carved out after years of working together following a chance encounter and honestly wonderful meet cute. The books that I recommend the most and are most in line with what I know to be best for kids from research and therapy are starred. Those books on this list are SO GOOD.Taking the time to practice mindfulness as a family is a remarkable gift for parents to give to their children, and will help children as they navigate the teen years and adulthood.
