All dehumidifiers have an intake fan to draw moist air in and an exhaust fan to expel dried air, and some models have a compressor that extracts the moisture. Each of these components makes a noise and the positioning of them can affect the overall noise level, as can the fan speeds. Make sure the dehumidifier is on a flat and level surface where it won’t vibrate. Consider putting it on a carpet or absorbent material rather than on a wooden floor.

If you need something even smaller, then ProBreeze also offer the ProBreeze 500ml Mini Dehumidifier. This has a 500ml water tank and a smaller 250ml extraction rate per day. The Silentnight 600ml Dehumidifier is another compact option, but that doesn’t enjoy the same large water tank as the ProBreeze 1500ml Mini dehumidifier which means you'll be emptying it far more often. Interestingly, ProBreeze measures this units noise levels as 40dB – fairly high compared to many dehumidifiers we've tested – however, it's the type of noise as well as the volume that dictates how intrusive an appliance's noise is, and I found the ProBreeze 1500ml Mini dehumidifier particularly quiet in comparison to most. PortabilityThe auto shut-off feature simply stops the dehumidifier when it has reached capacity, conveniently letting you know that you need to drain it before you can resume using it. E Although the EcoAir DD1 is somewhat noisier than the models reviewed above at 32 dB, it’s more powerful and can extract up to six litres of moisture a day at the highest setting. O nce again, I cannot emphasise enough how nice this thing looks. It will literally blend right in to your decor regardless of your home’s interior design.

We really love the sharp-looking temperature gauge on the control panel, which means you’ll get precise control over both climate and humidity. You essentially get full climate control in whichever room you like, which means you can live in perpetual comfort for as long as you can resist the urge to peel yourself off the sofa. At just 6 kg and with a 2-litre water tank capacity, this dehumidifier already sounds impressive to most. Clearly, setting a lower fan speed will reduce the noise level but that also limits what the dehumidifier can do. When manufacturers quote a noise level this refers to the noise level at the lowest speed setting, so in practice the dehumidifier will often be louder. Light users will be inconvenienced far less in this aspect, so please keep this in mind when selecting your dehumidifier. Moreover, dehumidifiers can prevent humid air from damaging your wooden furniture and interior, since dry air tends to loosen joints in a wooden floor; doors can fluctuate in size, potentially making them difficult to open and close; and chairs can start to feel the impact of humid air, causing them to wobble. Yet, it can also be used in the bathroom during showers, for example, or in cases of very bad damp. The quietest dehumidifier we could find in the UK is the Acekool 1000 ml Dehumidifier and Air Purifier, which has a noise level of just 25 dB according to the manufacturer. This product is inexpensive and very quiet, but also not very powerful (it can only extract 350 ml of water a day). First things first: the Meaco MeacoDry Dehumidifier is how I would imagine Apple making a dehumidifier, especially in the late 1990s. For the sight-impaired, please allow me to describe this thing with words alone. For starters, imagine a white popcorn maker that’s had it’s top lopped off two-thirds of the way up.
