Whilst all these features are great, there is one thing that many of us, myself included forget or overlook and that is how we use them. It is all very well having 6 cleaning modes, but what is the point if we only use them once or twice. Most of us fall into the trap of just using the standard ‘Clean’ mode most of the time. We either forget about the others or simply don’t bother. The weirdest thing is that the standard DiamondClean does not give you access to the Philips Sonicare App. Only two brushes do that, the 7300 and the final brush in the Sonicare line—the DiamondClean Smart. This is basically the precursor to the DailyClean series offering one mode and the most basic cleaning of any Sonicare brush. Philips Sonicare brush head guide Overall, research does support the Oral B technology as being better at removing plaque than the Sonicare technology. There are individual studies in favour of each respective company. Both are better than using a manual toothbrush. Below you can find similar Sonicare brushes that we have compared to one another, plus some that we have compared to their Oral-B equivalents.

Oral-B was the first to introduce Bluetooth to the toothbrush and their implementation of the pressure sensor is more user friendly. There are pros and cons to each and it is possible one brand will appeal to you more than the other. The 5100 and 6100 also include the BrushSync feature which uses the chip detection to not only tell how long you have been using the brush head, but also automatically matches whichever brush head you use to the right mode. So if you switch from the Gum Care brush head to the Whitening brush head, the mode on the brush will automatically detect this and change. You can override the automatic syncing if you want to. This is a cool feature, but again, we aren’t sure if any of these modes are better than the daily clean mode. Within the Sonicare range are a number of sub-categories or series into which particular models fit. Oral-B do offer a better warranty, 2 years as standard with an optional 3rd year if you register online. This shows confidence in the product that Sonicare does not.

It offers a feature that no other Sonicare brush has: A brush head base that includes a UV sanitizer. We had explored a few of these types of brushes in our initial research, but found that most reputable studies show no significant benefits from having a UV sanitizer for brush heads. But it seems like a cool idea. The way the cleaning is done will have different sensations in the mouth. This will influence your decision on the best brush for you.The thing you need to be aware of is that this button also changes intensities. While this Sonicare does not come with any modes, it does allow you to shift from high intensity to low intensity with a push of the button. Two button design of Sonicare DiamondClean VS One button design of Sonicare 4300 It’s a bit like having a gas or electric heating in your home. Both can heat your home but they do so in slightly different ways. In addition, you get a bluetooth connection so that you can record and monitor your brushing sessions using the Sonicare app. So this is the first brush in the Sonicare line up that will give you some smart features. For our in-house plaque test, the 4300 not only outperformed all the other brushes, but it also made the next brushes that we tested look better because our teeth were already so clean! The powerful cleaning action of up to 62,000 vibrations per minute combined with the C2 (Optimal Plaque Control) brush head made our mouths feel fresh and clean.

The next model in the Sonicare line up is a one-off. There is only one model that gets the “ExpertClean” moniker, the 7300 (HX9611).This is clearly personal preference. Some people will want to feel the clean, whilst others may find it overbearing.

Some extra life is achieved by Sonicare I believe via the quieter and possibly more efficient motor as well as the automatic power off feature, something Oral-B does not have. Which is the most innovative? But the technique is different for the different technologies too. The correct way to use an Oral-B toothbrush is different to a Sonicare. So, whilst the studies may suggest Oral-B is better, if someone used a Sonicare with the correct technique, compared to an Oral-B user with the incorrect technique, the Sonicare would likely perform better for that user. The travel case is excellent with a built-in USB cable for charging on the go. It is nice looking, holds the brush and two brush heads, and will keep your brush safe when you travel. So, at the bottom of the Sonicare line is the DailyClean series. These are the most basic and inexpensive sonicare brushes you can buy starting at under 30 euros (310 SEK / 27 GBP). There are 3 main model numbers, 1100, 2100, 3100. You can also get the 3200 and 3500 which are 3100s with extra stuff. The 3200 comes with a whitening brush head and the *500 designation usually means you get a travel case. Philips says that the 4300 comes with a “premium” travel case. But we found this white toothbrush coffin to be anything but premium. The plastic feels cheap and thin, and we tried so many times to put the brush handle in the box in a way so that it would not roll around, but it is impossible. There is room for two brush heads, and these snap in tight. But the handle itself just kind of rests on a little plastic depression which does not keep it in place. When you pay this much for a brush, you have high expectations. Initially the DiamondClean Smart was pretty impressive. It came with 4 brush heads along with a tongue cleaning kit, charging cup, deluxe travel case, and a stylish amethyst-colored handle. We hope that our 4300 will last for several years. The warranty is good for two years, and we know that Philips honors their warranty because we had a problem with our DiamondClean Smart model, and they took care of it immediately. Stepping up to the DiamondClean Smart line will give you 5 modes each with 3 different intensities. We think that this is way more than you will use, but you do have lots of options.
