About this deal

Blacksad tells the story of the titular detective as he investigates the murder of famous actress Natalia Willford. I think there’s still some worthwhile grappling over this idea of delayed Modernism — your Beaty essay starts that — but I’m ok with that happening in a different context. Ma così non avviene, e Hana prende il largo una volta che comprende che la corazza-carapace di Asterios non è penetrabile, e neppure scalfibile. This is a comic for artists, and it plays with space and color in ways that maybe only artists will understand, but it is a story for everyone, and Asterios Polyp is easily among the best graphic novels ever made.

Il layout del libro è cangiante, proteiforme, flessibile, incessantemente gradevole, mai soffocante.

Questioned about the impracticality of his design, Mazzucchelli joked that it was "the most frustrating package [I] could come up with". Asterios Polyp is his first graphic novel, and has won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and been listed as a New York Times notable book. This fan of the novel is an ever bigger fan of the magic that happens in comics, and only in comics, when text and art work together to create something wholly, wonderfully new. Pérez taps into the whimsical spirit of Henson's work, offering up a fantastical world that is bursting with color and imagination. His name is a pun referring to weak rainfall and this is a reference to his constant doomsaying, a matter that Mañana has learned to brush off.

Asterios Polyp by David Mazzucchelli | Goodreads

Mazzucchelli’s phallic imposition of meaning forces the reader into the position of recipient of the tyrannical injected phallus of the author (father) (cf french ‘auteur’, meaning either ‘originator of artwork’ or ‘originator of life: l’auteur de tes jours. When he wakes, he realizes his dreams have been trying to tell him that he is a flawed human being, but that his brother is trying to tell him that it is not his fault; the gods decided long before he was born that he was going to be made that way.Or, if you're so inclined, you can peel back layers and study the symbolism and wordplay and big ideas, thus gaining a fuller, more multifaceted understanding of this deeply layered text.

Asterios Polyp - David Mazzucchelli - Google Books

Asterios Polyp will cause comic-book buffs to swoon, sure, but the narrative—after a fire, an arrogant architect slowly begins to rebuild his own life—makes it much more than a pretty picture book. The fact that it's only in black and white helps exaggerate the bleak nature of the story, while also putting Miller's hulking figures on full display. I can’t help but suspect that your ideological objections to white male mid-life crisis narratives plays a major role in your negative reaction here. Although he died at birth Asterios still regards his presence and he is depicted in the graphic novel initially as a silhouette of a man drawn with white broken lines indicating that he is invisible.
