I think there’s still some worthwhile grappling over this idea of delayed Modernism — your Beaty essay starts that — but I’m ok with that happening in a different context. Asterios Polyp will cause comic-book buffs to swoon, sure, but the narrative—after a fire, an arrogant architect slowly begins to rebuild his own life—makes it much more than a pretty picture book.
