The single 9v battery is connected directly to the pinpointer via fixed contacts inside the battery housing. One thing I liked about the pinpointer was that it was vibration only, no annoying beeping and chatter. The battery compartment is sealed with a screw top cap which employs a rubber o-ring to keep the water out.
