The first volume felt a bit disjointed in terms of what the story would become, or what it was attempting to do, but in this volume, the themes and overall tone have begun to gel, and the form the story is taking is equal times monstrous as it is touching. I feel kind of bad giving this volume 4 stars because nothing hugely tragic happened to our main all star Punpun but, hey, it is what it is. Nobody in this manga can commit to anything and they don't try in the slightest, but then they're all so desperate. This volume has a side story telling the background of his uncle, how he starts dating again and the woman moves in with them. You think the mother is terrible and then she’s not but also is because she never wanted to show it and she only tramples her good deed by throwing it in Punpun’s face at the worst time!

Seki has a flashback to when he was younger and his dad brought him to the miso factory to get supplies. In 2001 his short story 'Uchuu kara Konnichiwa' (Hello from Outer Space) won the 1st Sunday GX rookie prize. It IS one of those books that has the potential to reach out and save someone as it shows that you're not alone.And then we have the Killing Stalking scene, girl is literally watching through the closet as he fucks his girlfriend. What hurts my heart more than anything is there are real people who suffer like Punpun does that aren’t just manga characters.

I also think that it is one of those novels that changes you---or just leaves you with thoughts long after you're finished. Punpun found himself slowly, slowly traversing the memories scattered about here and there that made up his very short life.

On top of that he said he'd drop everything for her, BUT NOOOO THAT'S NOT ENOUGH, AIKO WANTS A BOYFRIEND TO LOCK UP IN HER BASEMENT.

it's interesting to think about punpun's state on mind in this volume considering the turn the series takes. Punpun's class cleans up for the end of semester while Punpun dreads breaking his promise to Aiko, who will kill him.She tells the kids they can stay but to watch out for the ghost of the owner who committed suicide by fire. I've come to think of Punpun as one of my favourite imaginary book friends and I genuinely want him to do well out of life. This is one of my favorite manga series, if not my favorite, as I've said many times before, and I just love how dark it is.
