About this deal

This is in response to the growing trend of misleading advertising and dodgy specifications, such as the recent destruction of HDMI 2.

The only main problems were for the P3 color space, the S28 can't fully cover the P3 gamut, so performance at the top end is still off where it should be. When we get to ColorChecker performance, the sRGB mode is only capable of a deltaE ITP of 7, which is slightly below average among the sRGB modes I've tested, and not quite good enough for me to class the display as actually "factory calibrated".

The HDR support isn't as good as you'd find on a Samsung TV, but it does noticeably well with effective selective dimming. I found it hard to see in typical fast-paced gameplay, even when I’m looking for it, but again, that could just be how it manifests on this particular unit. By accepting all cookies, you agree to our use of cookies to deliver and maintain our services and site, improve the quality of Reddit, personalize Reddit content and advertising, and measure the effectiveness of advertising. We would recommend attaching the support arm while the monitor itself is still tucked snuggly into the supporting foam of the box to avoid anything being dropped.

Power consumption was similar to other IPS monitors of today, and I tested with the RGB lighting disabled. For color performance we kinda know what to expect to some degree from our previous reviews of monitors like the M28U. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is still one of my favorite examples of HDR done well, whether you’re in the colorful Peruvian jungle or watching light stream through a hole in the wall of a dark cave. The fast response time keeps up with the 240Hz refresh rate superbly, and I didn’t notice any bad ghosting or other motion artifacts, which can be common on other slower VA panels. It also makes me nervous to install a previous version onto my monitor if I have a newer one already. Since it uses a VA panel, black levels are deeper than you’d find on IPS displays, so it’s a good monitor for playing games at night in a dark room – though it did fall a bit short of its promised contrast ratio, with our model measuring 2033:1 instead of the Samsung’s quoted 2500:1. It quotes response time at 1ms GtG, but this is largely meaningless, as manufacturers tend to fudge these numbers with a host of misleading techniques).
