This was one of the first books I ever read and it's a pretty good place to start in the pantheon of the world's finest literature. The novel packs in as much blood spillage as possible, with an array of flamboyant characters each taking out their own independent (and often clichéd) roles within this outrageously over-the-top storyline.It waddled slowly to the front of the others, its pincers waving menacingly as though defying any one of them to challenge its authority. The oafish Colonel Goode plays out his role perfectly, whilst our principal protagonist, Cliff Davenport, just becomes more heroic (in a very understated British fashion) the further through the tale you are. I can't tell if he's trying to be serious here, but he's a very seriousprolific author who seems to be going gangbusters with the ebook rights to his out-of-print pulp paperbacks.
