The musical cast includes guest drummer Dave Grohl, who put his own band Foo Fighters on temporary hold to record and tour with Queens of the Stone Age. Although I wish I had that version I was pretty stoked to get a copy of this pressing which sounds just as good.

Unlike most edited versions, the edited version of Songs for the Deaf uses loud " bleeps" to censor lyrics, as if it were a live radio broadcast, as opposed to quietly muting the audio track.I've always looked at our first three records as a set: the first one was to distance ourselves from Kyuss, the second album fanned out the music into different areas and this one takes that out even a little further, I think.

Songs for the Deaf is a loose concept album, taking the listener on a drive through the California desert from Los Angeles to Joshua Tree, tuning into radio stations from towns along the way such as Banning and Chino Hills. This is four-to-the-floor slime of the highest quality, folks, and it's the second installment in this album's triad of genius, completed subsequently by the next track, "First It Giveth".Pitchfork may earn a portion of sales from products that are purchased through our site as part of our Affiliate Partnerships with retailers. In October 2001, while the album was being recorded, Dave Grohl stated that Songs for the Deaf was his favorite album that he had ever played drums on. All Ipecac Recordings copies on vinyl and the counterfeits which emulated them have the wrong catalogue number of "IPC-41" printed on the release which belongs to Mondo Generator. Over the last few months he has disarmed packed rooms of rowdy concert goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung. His full length debut on Daptone Records is equal parts raw feeling and elegance and exudes confidence and charm.

The engineer Eric Valentine credited Grohl for his patience in the process, which he described as "very difficult". Grohl had admired Queens of the Stone Age since they opened for Foo Fighters, and had wanted to appear on their previous album Rated R.Because after fine-tuning your taste over a lifetime, trusting someone else to curate your record collection can be scary. You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire" was the opening track of Volume 5: Poetry for the Masses (Sea Shed Shit Head by the She Sore), with vocals originally performed by Mario Lalli instead of Oliveri.
