Description

I feel this book is considered Adult because the characters are closer to mid 20s and some of the necromancy is descriptive + there’s a bit of language.

He grumbled as he levered himself up from the floor-bound mattress, holding the sheet around his naked hips. A dressing gown that had seen better days dripped off one shoulder as Lore leaned against the doorframe and watched him approach. About the Author Hannah Whitten has been writing to amuse herself since she could hold a pen, and she figured out sometime in high school that what amused her might also amuse others. Lore heard Elle heave a sigh, as if her brother’s job were a personal affront, the thin walls making it sound like she was right next to Lore instead of all the way on the first floor. The stairs of the row house were rickety, like pretty much everything else in the structure, and the fourth one squeaked something awful. It’s easy to hide in Dellaire’s underground, but it’s a lot harder to hide when you’re arrested by the soldier-monks of the Presque Mort for dealing poison and forced to serve the Sainted King in his court. Pierre didn’t seem to spare any thought for why she’d exited the house barely dressed when mornings near the harbor always carried a chill, even in summer. She felt the tunnels like phantom limbs, like the catacombs and the Mortem within them were part of her. In the year she’d been living with Michal, it’d become very obvious that she’d never get along with his sister.

Set in a glittering world of twisted magic and fallen gods, The Foxglove King boasts an intoxicating combination of mystery, magic and romance, twined with impeccable tension and characters I instantly became obsessed with.

As we are starting to move into the summer months this would make an absolutely fantastic fantasy beach read. Sinister, deadly and so seductive you won't be able to tear yourself away from this dark gem of a book' . All of these elements combine to create a book that I didn’t necessarily love, but that I had an absolute blast with.

Anyone can take one look at you and know, Pierre, even though your deathdealer barely gave you enough to make you tingle. I found myself not only confused but intrigued, and I’m now half-wondering if Whitten is pulling a fast one on me and neither character will be a true love interest by the end of the series. You are going to tell Nicolas that we’ve paid up for the next six months, or I am going to tell him you’ve been spending his coin on deathdealers.

This task puts Lore in the orbit of both Bastian and Presque Mort Gabriel, both of whom feel oddly familiar. Whitten nicely develops both of Lore’s potential love interests, crafting them as flawed yet viable objects of Lore’s attentions. Lore shot him a dazzling grin, the same one that made Michal’s eyes simultaneously go heated and then narrow before he asked what she wanted.
