She often saw them only once and had no way of learning if she’d helped, what happened next or how their lives would unfold. When she started describing the inmates at the women's prison and what occurred for them to end up there was so sad. the premise of this book sounds inviting; however, the overall writing style is simplistic and underwhelming.

Most of these opportunities are in primary care but experience in communicable diseases, drug abuse or mental health is also very useful. However I felt this one was a but disjointed because rather than focusing on one part of her career like her previous books, this one switched between her time in the Foreign National Prison and her time as an out of hours doctor and unfortunately this did impact of the flow while reading which is why I dropped it down a star. I have great admiration for Dr Amanda Brown at 64 she doesn’t pla to stop working , she plans only to stop working when she stops enjoying it.But she was only in this role for a year so I’m not sure there’s much that could have been done about that. I learned that most female prisoners are actually victims of physical and/or sexual abuse, which in turn can lead them to a life of crime involving theft and substance abuse. The reasoning is: you committed a crime, you However, his medical license gets suspended as a result of a medical malpractice incident that arises when the hospital board director causes a ruckus. Back in 2020, The Prison Doctor was the book that got me back into reading, and every book that has come out since has been just as good.

To her, the most fulfilling part of the job is being a listener, a counsellor and a friend to inmates who are drowning under the weight of their circumstances or harrowed by the length of their sentences. Her stories from inside prison were really interesting usually but maybe because of the type of prison it was, it just didn't make for as an interesting or detailed book.I am not saying that everything she said about mental health was wrong - at least she was sympathetic, but compassion is not enough when you are in a position of care.

For someone like myself, with a pretty privileged background, I’ve never really needed to think about it. Every job is varied, fast paced and harrowing, but it’s her time within the women’s prison that stands out the most. But this has also been an exciting challenge and through the years, I’ve witnessed a fascinating mix of humanity. I also wonder whether creative licence has been taken as the novel opens with a story about a woman who had just been arrested for murdering her partner. And if anyone has anymore recommends about prison life in the UK written by women who have actually experienced time behind bars, let me know.
