About this deal

I expected a horror series full of twists and turns and gore; I got that, but I also got so much more. The newly awakened Kaneki unleashes his monstrous strength to protect his friend Touka and finds himself irrevocably changed. The moral conflicts between the ghouls and the human police was interesting at times but certainly nothing groundbreaking (again see Blade) and the transformation of the character from unimposing victim to action paragon was a bit too hammy for my tastes. The illustrations were beautiful and grotesque and chaotic, albeit occasionally too chaotic and unclear during action scenes. I watched the anime and loved the first season, although the second took a bit of a dip and ended in a very anti climactic way.

Reports of strange murders involving cannibalism and monster attacks have been haunting the city of Tokyo.

Tokyo Ghoul is definitely in one of my top 10 manga reads of all time and the fastest i have ever completed an entire manga. Ken Kaneki is an ordinary college student until a violent encounter turns him into the first half-human half-ghoul hybrid.

All the characters who cared for him and we’re waiting for him to wake up are proof that he deserved his happy ending. I will always remember this story, and am terrified whenever I am close to finishing it on a read-through.Then it’s pointed out that the ghouls are the ones risking their lives to solve a problem created by humans, because Kaneki wasn’t a ghoul to begin with. Even though the quality of the artwork drew me in and made me zip through this series remarkably quick, I am not interested in seeing where the tale of Ken Kaneki and the rest of his gang goes. Tokyo Ghoul is my favourite anime, thus I'm speaking in the position of a Fan, some plots are missing in anime series that one must thus give it a try to carefully understand the connection of the plots in the anime, further this manga series is worth trying for its concept of human and ghoul and some of its written content is worth reading, regardless if you find manga Boring I definitely suggest watching the anime. Anyways, this is not a well-articulated review with a character and story analysis of all the things I loved, but I can tell you this: I love the story and the characters with all my heart.

Yet another set I will forever cherish due to how much I fell in love with the story and the characters.

This is a modern reiteration of Kafka's Metamorphosis, transporting the classic short story into a new time and recontextualising it on a broader scale. From the beginning till the end "the world is cruel" is stated many times and there are several incidents which proved this. It does destroy me that the only heartfelt interaction Kaneki and Touka was one where Touka was beating the shit out of Kaneki. As Kaneki and the fiercest fighter in the CCG, Arima, finally face off, several investigators launch an assault on Yoshimura, unaware of the danger that awaits them.

Yes, but ultimately he has his own selfish reasons for it, and I loved how other characters confronted him about trying to play the part of "the tragic hero". Revisiting old characters was so great to see and I enjoyed how the story progressed and it was wrapped up really nicely.

Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every wayexcept for their craving for human flesh. If one reads this manga at perfect timing, when one faces huge changes, especially a painful one, this manga would be a treasure for them beyond compare. It was interesting how Kaneki's desire to protect everyone (very typical of an anime protagonist) was ultimately portrayed as coming from a rather selfish desire of his to not be alone.
