Share the Story Read aloud Read the book aloud allowing time for children to enjoy looking at the beautiful black and white and colour illustrations. We talked about imagination and how we could use different things to pretend - we do a lot of duplo and painting but don't play many imaginative games, so it was very helpful to have this prompt. Use the wonderful 'Whatever Next' story by Jill Murphy to complete this lovely adult lead activity - what would you want to take to the moon with you? Use WordArt (or a paint program) to create eye-catching examples of words linked to onomatopoeia (like ‘Whoosh’ and ‘BUMP’). Why not use inspire some problem-solving in your classroom by using this fun listto decide which 10 things you will take into space?

We had a lovely time with Whatever Next- first I read the story to Miles, then we read it again with his dad there too and Miles loved telling him what was happening and showing him the animals. This is a weeks lesson plan for learning and then writing the story of ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. You could add one or two questions as well, for example do children think Baby Bear really went to the moon? All children will need later is a cardboard box and they will be able to imagine they are off to the moon themselves! Find out about the history of space flight and the different astronauts who have landed on the moon. It's age relevant it's also one of those stories that has that magic appeal it's not illuminous and ridiculous when compared to the real world.
