Description

From Bull Bay (A5025) take the first right after 2 miles, then park by the footpath sign, by the bend. Dip in to the emerald-green plunge pools of Provence and swim beneath the great châteaux of the Loire and Dordogne. The OSS also publishes an interactive Wild Swim Map, which is another great resource for finding outdoor swim spots.

From the west end locals swim and canoe across the narrow deep channel to Scolt Head Island, a fabulous uninhabited nature reserve, and England’s only desert island. Currents aren’t necessarily dangerous – you’re not going to be sucked under – but they can be disorientating and may take you out into deeper water or close to an obstruction.Wild Guide: Devon, Cornwall and South West: This was co-written with Tania Pascoe and Joanna Keeling.

From the Berneray causeway continue south on the B893, then right on the A865 and turn right by the phonebox. The magical Helford estuary is lined with ancient woodland, sub-tropical gardens and secret shingle coves. It has over 60 swims in it along with lots of useful advice about how to get started with wild swimming.Daniel, if you read this it would be great if you could include this “warning” on your site on in your book if you publish again. The all-new bumper second edition of the best-selling Wild Swimming photo guide is now fully revised and expanded to include 150 amazing new wild swimming locations (twice the number of the previous book), brand new coverage in the South-East and the Midlands, new information for kids and families, new ideas for pubs, campsites, boat trips and weekends, new ratings on safety and access and improved maps and digital grid references. The author was a notable environmentalist (he was a founding member of Friends of the Earth) and this is apparent throughout the book.
