That just simply feels like a life-defining moment in a way that catching or missing a subway train (that usually come a few minutes apart) does not. This beautifully rendered story explores the brilliance and rarity of finding true love, and how to find our way back through the painful aftermath of losing it. On the heels of leaving another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence with her best friend Gabby. All in all, it was ok, but not one I will be reading again and not a great introduction into the works of Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Themes of friendship, mistakes, the past, love, choices, ownership and agency all play out well, making Maybe in Another Life a story you can follow easily from beginning to end. But I can also see why how she depicts race rubs some people the wrong way – and this isn’t one of the books where the main character is a woman of color. After the latest incident in which Hannah ends up sleeping with a married man---and actually contemplating a future with him---Hannah decides that maybe it's time to go home.

Shortly after moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles, she goes out to a bar with her best friend, Gabby, and reconnects with her high school boyfriend, Ethan. As the night wore on and couples started making out in the dimly lit gym, I looked over at the only other person standing against the wall.It was interesting to see how some of the same things ultimately evolved (but came about differently), and also interesting to see how the characters’ interactions varied in each storyline.

I thought it would be the most fair to read the one that appealed to me the most, and that was this one. Maybe in Another Life is definitely a contemplative read and I can see why it has been embraced by so many readers, especially in recent times. For the reader, getting to see both scenario's play out concurrently through this book is fun and mostly delightful! A., there is a welcome party organized by Gabby with all of their high school friends, Ethan, her high school sweetheart, included. Does it matter that once I heard his wife’s voice, once I knew the names of his children, I never spoke to him again? At its simplest, it’s that romantic love and friend love are not the same thing, and I’m not in romantic love with them. it became really frustrating after a while and, although i know thats not the storys fault, i definitely would have rated this higher if i had read a physical copy, only because my reading experience would have been more enjoyable.

But back then, I just assumed it would all fall into place, that the big things in life would take care of themselves. It’s not necessarily how I see myself, but I admit, if you reduced me to a caricature, I’d be big boobs and a high bun.

It doesn’t always need to be a paramount, life changing decision, but then again, we don’t always realize when we are making one of those.
