CWs: misogyny/sexism, mentions of rape, mentions of transphobia, description of genital mutilation, racism. Many of the guests are some of my favourite women - smart, articulate, empathetic - but the host talks over them, asks basic questions, elbows in her own immature, unrefined viewpoint. While there are things we can do in our individual lives to change things, it's important we recognise the bigger picture. However, I question the choice of placing their essays next to those of cis women singing about the intrinsic connection between periods and womanhood, with absolutely no context or analysis. So this is for people who already identify as feminists" ( A playlists for Feminists in any situation - Akilah Hughes, p.As a reader I think the book could have benefitted from more discussion on the education of future generations. That being said, with there being so many women included…I feel like this was just not put together too well. I’m so thankful for the relative diversity of experience – it’s a decent specimen of intersectional feminism. The language is accessible, the content agreeable (unless you’re a patriarchal monster) and the messages clear and informative.
