On paper, it's hard to find fault with Training Day's revitalized 2160p, HDR10 transfer: when compared to the generally flat and lifeless 2006 Blu-ray, with its DVD-era master and limp Training Day (2001) is the first film to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros. in 2023 with a 4K Blu-ray upgrade that has never been available before. If you have seen the film you may already know that Denzel Washington won an Oscar for his lead performance as Alonzo Harris. And, Ethan Hawke received a nomination for best-supporting actor for his role as Harris’ partner Jake Hoyt. Many consider Training Day to be Antoine Fuqua’s signature film, a high-level drama with incredible plot structure and character building that is at the top of its class. Here is a review of the new 4k, HDR, and Dolby Atmos presentation of Training Day. Training Day (2001) starring Denzel Washington 4k screenshot Video Description: Police drama about a veteran officer who escorts a rookie on his first day with the LAPD's tough inner-city narcotics unit. "Training Day" is a blistering action drama that asks the audience to decide what is necessary, what is heroic and what crosses the line in the harrowing gray zone of fighting urban crime. Does law-abiding law enforcement come at the expense of justice and public safety? If so, do we demand safe streets at any cost?

Training Day's ensemble is arrestingly eclectic, mixing trendsetting musicianswith an assortment of talented character actors. Scott Glenn (Silence of the Lambs) plays a criminal who finds himself on the wrong end of Alonzo's brand of justice. Tom Berenger (Platoon) plays a high-ranking official with the rare ability to intimidate the relentless Alonzo. proportionately, both discs offer a very capable presentation that most fans will be pleased with. But while the Blu-ray trades in HDR's more vivid One of the first titles to score both a Blu-ray and HD-DVD release, Training Day has long been in need of an upgrade - and we finally have one! This new HDR10 2160p 2.35:1 transfer simply shines like a beautiful new penny. Point of interest though, streaming 4K options offer Dolby Vision HDR so keep that in mind. But for this disc, it offers vivid clear details with a nice naturally cinematic film grain structure, the film has never looked this good on home video. Facial features, details in the grimy city streets and neighborhoods, and the film’s excellent production values are all on display. One frame to the next it just looks better and better. Cliff Curtis (Avatar: The Way of Water) plays a menacing gangster against whom Jake finds himself pitted in one of the movie's most suspenseful sequences, as the rookie finds himself hung out to dry by nefarious veteran Alonzo. And Eva Mendes (The Other Guys) brings a sense of grace to the role of Alonzo's neglected partner, her character serving to reveal a whole new dimension to Washington's relentless detective.Washington won an Oscar for his performance. While he’s better in films like Malcolm X and Philadelphia , he makes for one hell of a movie villain. The actor’s atypical mannerisms — the flashy smile, the piercing eyes, the smooth delivery — are on display, albeit turned up a notch and twisted in a manner that makes him both magnetic and terrifying. He’s nothing short of amazing here. You have to keep in mind though this film does have different color grading than previous presentations. There are yellowish and greenish casts that are not evident in previous HD versions (even digital) which appear warmer. But this color grading is truer to the original theatrical presentation on film. video fans"; it's not as drastic as, say Goodfellas, but I still think a middle-ground approach would have yielded better results. (It's also a bit dark in spots, which is more

noticeably more vibrant and film-like picture than the 2006 Blu-ray. It likewise might rate a little higher than my 4/5 rating suggests; Training Day (2001), starring Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Scott Glenn, Tom Berenger, and Harris Yulin. Currently, the release is scheduled to arrive on the market on February 28. interest than the much flatter 2006 presentation. Overall, I like the changes, with the obvious caveat that a true theatrical reference point was notRating Certificate: R (for strong brutal violence, pervasive language, drug content and brief nudity) Secondary Audio: French (Québécois) DD 2.0 | French DD 5.1 | German DD 5.1 | Italian DD 5.1 | Spanish (Castilian) DD 5.1 | Spanish (Latino) DD 2.0 | Czech DD 5.1 However, she added, “If you push that HDR a little too far, it becomes hard to see into the low lights, and it’s almost like your pupils dilate. There’s a beautiful light coming across Denzel’s face, and his eyes are lit up. I wanted the light to hit, I wanted that drama, but I didn’t want to bury the tension in what you don’t see.”

Another scene that offered an opportunity to showcase the process was when Hawke’s character is about to be executed in a bathtub. It challenged even the colorist’s preconceptions. their 2006 Blu-ray, so catapulting from Dolby Digital 5.1 to full-fledged Atmos yields unsurprisingly great results. (Sadly, there's a bit of controversy Training Day won an Oscar for Best Actor (Denzel Washington) and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Ethan Hawke). The film was directed by Antoine Fuqua based on the book by David Ayer. The cinematography was directed by Mauro Fiore and the music score by Mark Mancina. Like I said, I’m not cut out to deal with that kind of thing. As I joked to a co-worker the other day, I’d probably die in the first episode if I was a Game of Thrones character. I have a hard enough time navigating office culture politics; I can’t imagine trying to deal with “make the wrong decision and you’re dead” kind of situations. warm which, over time, has clearly skewed our perspective of what true accuracy looks like... so for all I know, Training Day's "new" palette

Everyone talking about the artwork needs to go look at the Titanic poster for the 2023 rerelease. Some shitwit actually photoshopped two pictures of Rose together with two different hairstyles, and it shows. It makes WB’s covers look like Da Vinci did them. they're applied more liberally to darker elements to create more of a vibrant "push-and-pull" effect that leads to a lot more visual I find some jobs to be fascinating from a point-of-view of “I could never do that in a million years.” Yes, I’m a middle-aged white guy with a marketing job who works from home and can’t even begin to imagine the complexities that a guy like Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington, in an Oscar-winning performance) navigates in Training Day.

That said, Alonzo Harris uncorks a realm of splenetic venom and menace that, at the time of Training Day's initial release, was startling to behold. Here is a Washington character who knows he's bad and gleefully revels in the power that his position bestows upon him.Directed by Antoine Fuqua and scripted by David Ayer, Training Day endures as a savvy, gritty slice of hardboiled contemporary cinema. Here are the reasons why. All of the bonus features have been previously released on Blu-ray with the exception of commentary by Director Antoine Fuqua offered on the 4K disc. On the Blu-ray legacy bonus features include additional scenes, an alternate ending, the theatrical trailer, Training Day: Crossing the Line, and two music videos by Nelly and Pharoache Monch. Scores available as a reference. But please remember that most DVD-era masters -- and the early Blu-rays that used them -- often leaned artificially Idealistic young cop Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) is a newlywed and an expectant father. His goal is to make detective in the LAPD and the fastest way to do this is to join the undercover division. While here, he has to work the streets for a year or so before earning his promotion. Hoyt gets the opportunity to work under Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) where they spend the day getting to know one another and patrol some of L.A.’s toughest neighborhoods. Alonzo has streets smarts and prefers a different kind of law – he lets criminals go after he’s scared them and so forth. As the day progresses, Hoyt witnesses a different kind of policework and it’s not one that he’s too fond of. Is Alonzo the force’s saving grace or just a corrupt cop? Antoine Fuqua's 2001 crime thriller earned a powerhouse Denzel Washington his first and only Best Actor Oscar, and remains an intoxicating, tense 24 hours on the violent streets of LA.
