We all know the saying ‘kill two birds with one stone’, the new Altair prescription does just this... Constantly we are asked about prescription goggles, something we have been wanting to do but have never found a goggle good enough, or been able to accommodate the multiple lenses needed with a prescription goggle. The Altair Prescription Lenses are identical to those found in our premium goggle, ensuring that you don’t have to compromise style over function.

Overall, the best swimming goggles for you are the ones that fit on your face most comfortably, so we looked at things like whether the goggles had adjustable nose bridges that help ensure a comfortable fit.

OUTDOOR SWIMMER

To test the best swimming goggles, we went swimming! We put all of the goggles through their paces in the pool and in open water to look at how well they fit, how good the seal was, and how well the lenses performed in different conditions. One happy customer describes these goggles as “ one less stress on race day, an essential choice for sea and lake swims”. For this weeks blog we have a Huub Altair swim goggles product review that we have been reviewing for the past 8 weeks testing them in pools, lakes, rivers and sea swims. Alternatives to Huub Goggles When it comes to goggles for open water swimming, a comfortable fit and the ability to see clearly in all given light conditions outside are the two most important factors. Huub released their top-of-the-line Altair goggles with this criteria in mind, and created a first-of-its kind google that offers three interchangeable lenses to help you get that perfect vision no matter how light or dark it is while you’re swimming outdoors. Here’s why the Altair is the ultimate choice for the triathlete who hasn’t found what they’re looking for yet in the perfect open water goggle: Comfort priortized

Featuring small frames, you don’t want to be wearing lashes of waterproof mascara in these — trust us when we say your make-up will end up on the entire lens, and then you really won’t be able to see much. Casual swimmers may find the lens shape too small, but the low profile hydrodynamic shape does offer increased peripheral vision. The double head strap also pretty much guarantees a secure fit (meaning they won’t fly off upon diving into the water) while the interchangeable nose bridges mean they cater to different-sized faces. Supplied as standard with three pairs of different interchangeable non-prescription mirrored lenses for reduced glare and comfort: Choosing open water goggles can feel confusing with the range of options available. Do I need polarised or tinted? What does photo-chromatic mean? And do I want wraparound lenses or something more streamlined? How to choose open water swimming goggles? For open water swimmers plunging into salty oceans, shimmering lakes or fresh-water rivers, Zone3’s Vapour Goggles are the ones you need. With larger lenses, these are some of the most comfortable goggles on our list — and they suit both male and female faces. The polarized version is available in three different colorways — metallic gold, blue, and silver — plus, you can also get your hands on a swanky exclusive Tim Don inspired pair in navy and neon orange. If polarized mirrored lenses aren’t your thing, fear not, they also come in photochromatic and clear pale blue.Made of high grade polycarbonate with a soft flexible silicone seal and three interchangeable nose bridges for optimum comfort and fit. The broad lenses give an excellent field of view. Whether you're looking for a classic design or something more modern, HUUB goggles have you covered. With a range of styles and colors to choose from, you're sure to find a pair that matches your personality and style. Enhance Your Cycling Experience Today

A recent winner of Best Trisuit Brand of the year, HUUB continues to be at the forefront of sports science and design, producing triathlon clothing worn by elite athletes. The brand of choice for the Brownlee brothers and Helen Jenkins, HUUB is constantly researching innovative ways to maximise the potential of the athletes who wear its products. One happy customer describes these goggles as " one less stress on race day, an essential choice for sea and lake swims". With comfort also comes reliability and in goggle terms this means a set that don’t leak and mean you won’t find yourself treading water part way round as the seals have failed and allowed water to ingress around your eye. It is very much a personal thing on what goggles deliver a comfortable fit as we all have different sized and shaped heads but the flexibility of the soft silicone gasket seal around the eyes and construction mean the Altair’s offer a quality fit for most people. Certainly all the freak shaped units that shuffle around the Trivelo offices on a daily basis found them comfy! Swimming for over 2 hours tends to mean you are left looking like you haven’t slept for days with bags under the eyes from the goggles pressing against your skull. No such issue with the Altair that allows a quality seal without having to overtly tighten the headstrap. Look and feel of the Huub Altair Goggles We also wanted to make our fantastic interchangeable goggle even better... So, we made the Altair a prescription lens fit goggle, in addition to the three standard-issue lenses, surely that’s the answer to both our dilemmas! I tend to keep a bottle of “anti-fog” in my swim bag in readiness for my goggles failing to remain clear on a swim but the Huub Altair’s seem to have some really durable anti-fog coating as to date I haven’t needed to use anything on them and visibility has been excellent. After 8 weeks you can see the coating starting to be affected by the regular usage but this has not affected the performance of the anti-fog. The lens is rounded that gives you some all round visibility but this isn’t significant and in line with many similar goggles of this style. I found the vision provided natural and not an issue in pool or open water. Build Quality & Durability of Huub GogglesHUUB strive to deliver what competitors want and following a huge amount of requests for a prescription goggle they believe they have created the perfect solution. HUUB’s new Altair Prescription Lenses are designed to be used with their most adaptable goggle – the Altair. Its customers asked, so HUUB created a pair of goggles that adapts to their ever-changing needs and conditions. For me the key to a quality set of goggles has to start with comfort and this is magnified when you are considering endurance swims or triathlon events such as an ironman. Wearing goggles for over an hour can become a real chore if you don’t have the right fit which just becomes impossible to ignore over time. Water leakage from the Huub Altair Goggles There are a couple of interchangeable nose bridges that come with these goggles — which are always handy when a box says “one size fits all”. The adjustable nose bridge allows you to tweak the goggles for a more secure fit. Although, it’s worth noting that this feature isn’t a ‘must have’ for kids, beginners, and more casual pool-goers, but adjustable nose-bridge pieces do tend to come as standard for intermediate and advanced swimming goggles.

With a soft, flexible silicone gasket that disperses any pressure around your eyes, these goggles fit comfortably and softly against the skin for a better feel. A PU nosepiece with three separate interchangeable bridges, these goggles can be fitted to a variety of nose shapes and offer you a perfect fit. We also considered extras, like whether the swimming goggles came with a case, or handy travel bag, or multiple nose grips. The last thing you want is a scratch down your new goggles, so we looked out for this when testing. How to choose the best swimming goggles for you The Altair goggles are the only ones which come with three different lenses. Each lens provides incredibly sharp vision in the water and under a variety of light conditions. If your swimming goggles keep leaking, despite you adjusting them to fit your nose, and around your head, it might be that they aren't the right pair for you. Despite these swimming goggles being the best on test, they might not be the best for your face shape or bone structure if they keep leaking. Finally, whatever level of swimmer you might be, it's a good idea to select a pair of swimming goggles that can easily be adjusted. Look for things like an adjustable nose bridge, which will help the goggles sit comfortably on the bridge of your nose, and prevent you from having to adjust them each length of the pool. How do you stop swimming goggles from leaking?

Depending on the weather and light conditions, simply swap the high-grade polycarbonate lenses to match your needs. When it comes to choosing the best swimming goggles for you, it's a good idea to think about where you'll be doing most of your swimming. If you'll be doing most of your laps in the pool, you probably won't need a pair of goggles with a polarized lens that offers UV protection. On the other hand, if you are planning on doing a lot of open-water swimming, you'll want to keep the sun out of your eyes between strokes. Mirrored lenses also reduce brightness and help cut out glare. Some swimmers enjoy the psychological advantage they feel that mirrored lenses give them in races by psyching out their competitors!
